Did you break into the 1:40's?  When you posted about your early brake woes it reminded me of a story you told me last year at the WCR about the time your brake pedal went to the floor when you were setting up for the first turn after a long 120mph straight.....sweet Jesus....

1:49.999 would be absolutely flying for me, I managed a PB 1:52.507. The front runners are there, but they are at least 130lbs lighter and probably 15-20 hp ahead of me. Admittedly, I haven't put the big money into developing the car, and have remained "DIY", which makes any podium appearance very sweet for me. with each motor rebuild I have gained confidence in pushing the tolerances a little further, which should yield improvement on the lap times. I'm also running on a garage floor DIY alignment, which can't possibly match a good full corner balance and alignment on a rack, which I will be doing soon. I think there is significant time on the table for me, and plenty of optimism down the track. In the mean time, I should be getting better as a driver with the car in its current inferior form. The biggest obstacle I face is weight loss. The car is a 1987 Carrera, which is one of the latest models that we race, and is also one of the heaviest. The G50 transmission alone outweighs the daintier 915 transmission by 30lbs or so. Also, my roll cage builder put .12" thick DOM tubing in my car when it should have been the .095" thinner DOM due to the weight minimums of the Spec911 class I race. This translated to about .7 lbs/linear foot of tubing additional weight. I haven't measure how many feet of cage I have throughout the car, but it is significant weight that is up high where I don't want it. I already replaced most of the typical sheet metal with glass (bumpers, hood, tail, windows, etc.) and will likely do the fenders and quarters in the near future.

There is nothing more frightening than a loss of braking at speed. Thank God I was at THill and not at Sonoma or Laguna with that problem. Thunderhill has plenty of grassy runoff all the way around the track, so these problems aren't as devastating as they could be.

Andy was musing about the idea of a mini rally in conjunction with a race weekend one of these days. We can toss that idea around up at Hayfork over that beer somebody owes somebody.

Congratulations ! very nice car i love the 911  how much horsepower is in it ? a guy at work had a 911 with 600 horses

It's a spec car, so no hp mods allowed. I last dyno'd it at 225 to the tires. Next motor rebuild will push a little closer to 240.

My car is fat, Pat, mostly because it's a later model, with the heavier tranny and double seam welds, etc. I weighed in at 2450 lbs after the race. Minimum weight for the class is 2310.
I have a friend with a set of scales and stands that I can borrow, so I'll get it set up much better before the next race. Fingers crossed

Yea, those Paco alignment stands look to be the bomb. Never tried them myself. Some of the locals love them. That's the way to do it, get involved in a club, that way you can pass the tools around.

I admire your DIY can do attitude Rick. There may be lighter, more powerful 911's out there but I gotta hand it to you amigo....you are out there....mixing it up in door to door racing....and that is fucking cool :good:
