So the YZF600r wheel arrived today. I laid it out with a spare swingarm and all checks out from what I was told. 8mm off each side with the FJ stock sprocket on backward and stock caliper. Will slot straight in. Will fit it up with a 170/60-17. Anyone know if the earlier Aluminium swingarm will fit the later frames?

To replace the steel swinger on the 4th gen. '91-95 FJ's with an aluminum swinger, you need the 3rd gen. '89-90 FJ swinger which uses the same dog bone style shock linkage. Plug and play.
The early 1st or 2nd gen FJ aluminum swingers ('84-87) will not work on the later FJ's  because the shock linkage is different.

That's very interesting Fred, what form did this improvement take?

By that logic, the 150 should be better. I can see the turn-in being easier, but there is certainly more contact patch on the ground in a turn with the 180.  :bomb: (popcorn)

It seems to me that the most valid way to compare a 170mm vs. 180mm rear tire is to have one of each, in the same brand and model and try them out back to back, in new condition. I know that I thought the 180 Dunlop Roadsmart 3 tire that I replaced the previous 170 Metzeler RoadTec 01 with felt  phenomenally better than the narrower tire. I know, a worn out apple to a brand new orange....... :sarcastic: And yes, the 180mm tire works perfectly on the YZF600R wheel..... :bye2:

Congrats on the wheel mod Richard, that's exactly the mod I did on mine - it's so simple, I'm surprised not more people have done it ??

I'm running a 170/60x17 BT023 on the back and have a 120/70x17 BT023 on the front (on a FZR 3.5" wheel).

The difference in steering feel and consistency/predictability on turn-in is really noticeable !

(Mind you, I'm also running with modified suspension front and rear too).

I'm running a 160 tire on my YZF600 rear tire conversion and have absolutely no complaints.  I really don't think there's a bad tire out there in a modern size.

That sounds like a really good combo. Will be looking for a FZR front as well..
