I have two 84 FJ's that the serial numbers are only twelve apart but the rear fenders are different lengths.my first fj has a shorter fender which I think looks much better. It doesn't look like it's been cut down,if it was they did a heck of job there are no rough edges .has anyone else seen a rear fender that is short like that?

The fender on the yellow bike looks to be of the OEM standard length fender. The two small holes are for a red reflector bracket. The fender on the black bike has been cut down and looks to have been done very well.

I cut my tail light and fender down...I think it matches the FJ's lines better.

Agreed Pat, but only with the bigger tyre.

Cutting them down with the standard wheel /tyre just exaggerates its smallness & narrowness IMHO

Pat's tires are definitely wider than stock but I didn't think the tires were significantly if at all taller then stock.

You are correct, sir. 150/70/16 = 24.3" diameter   180/55/17 = 24.8" diameter

Riding beside Pat at the Central Rally in S.Dakota, both of us on 84's with identical gearing I synchronized our engines. With both engines at the same rpm our speed was virtually identical. I still have a 16" rear tire and he has a 17". With a 16" tire with the higher profile side wall and his 17" tire with a lower profile the tires had to be the same diameter. The sound of two synchronized FJs is just as sweet as the sound of a twin engine aircraft.

Yep, the wider tyres on 17" wheels aren't any taller, but the extra 1/2" each side that the rim sits away from the rear hub has a big (positive) visual effect on the rear of the bike  :good2:

Pat I've often wondered but keep forgetting to ask, what application did your rear tire fender come from?

The hugger was made by Pyramid Plastics in the U.K. It's for the YZF1000 (Thunder Ace) swing arm.
Unfortunately they don't make them for the FJ's swing arm.

With out having that lower aftermarket fender I have had complaints from Ian about being pelted with small rocks on gravelly roads when he follows within fifty feet.At the time I didn't realize I had a short fender.

That sure looks cool Pat.  Now Travis has something else to buy.
