Hi all..

As stated above... im after some cowling bits for my 1991 3XW FJ1200
I have left side damage so I'd be ok if there was someone out there that had stuff with right side damage.
Looking for both top and bottom cowling...

I have found a few places that still sell NOS but way too much for me... I have also seen after market stuff out there... but id rather not go that way. Im in Perth Western Australia

Cheers

Hi all..

Just checking in again to see if anyone has an upper fairing for a 1991 3xw FJ1200. I need to do a repair on the left side of my fairing.

I'd be ok if anyone had a damaged one, either to cut in half or already broken.

Cheers

Eric

Is repair out of the question? ABS is easy to repair and a shop should not be too hard to find. Minor stuff is easy with that Plastifix stuff. Or mix up some old Legos and Acetone to make a plastic putty. With a little practice and equipment, plastic welding can be a very strong fix.

I think plastics repair is one on the Monkeys favorite topics

Hey Mike, our bikes (and our selves) are not getting any younger. When your plastic fails or is damaged on your FJ, what you gonna do? I am currently working on a project that might normally have been tossed in the bin. This is not my lower but like many, it has been exposed to the love of riding.

Repair is an option...

And my work recently has given me some really good experience in vacuum form plastic molding that I see extending into my personal love of the FJ. Now if I could just make enough money to quit my day job and work on the fun stuff...

I think the fuse cover for the FJ1100 would be a good candidate for vacume forming.I could use one.The last one I saw on e-bay was sixty dollars.

Hi all and thanks for your replies...

I dont have many pics but the section below the scoop is missing... I managed to find a scoop, which fills most of the hole in... but you can see that bottom section is missing.

I have looked at welding a formed ABS section on there and have sent away to a few places that make aftermarket fairing... but most do replacements for the earlier models, but not for 1991 onwards...

Im ok with welding and repairs, but its a bit harder when you dont have the piece to go back on... So... thats why I was asking if anyone had a damaged one... just to cut that bit off to weld on...

I may have found a fairing but negotiating atm... they are a bit pricey...

Cheers

Yes... that's my plan... I have worked with fiberglass so wanted to try do one... But I cant do it with a broken one... I'm thinking adding an ABS plastic section and using it to make a plug...
A winter job...

So Right Mark. I am very familiar with plastafix. Good stuff. Repaired fender tabs and stuff I probably have forgotten about. Not to mention good old epoxy for plastic. Used it Sunday to ward off cracking before its too late on those skinny side panels at rear end of the bike.
Weld on sir

This is a little off-topic but since there is mention of Plastifix here, would anyone be willing to undertake a repair job on some of my fairing pieces? I just don't have a good enough workspace to complete the task dutifully.

Troyskie... I have done the ring around to every wreckers in perth I could find, and they even put it out on their parts hotline and I got zip back...

Good news though... After some serious trolling on the net and eBay, and chatting with a few amazing strangers from eBay, I tracked down, and got myself a damaged top fairing from France, yes, France... and lucky enough to buy another very nice  top fairing, same color as mine from the UK.

The one from France, arrived at my front door in Perth in 5 days!! AMAZING!!! Im still waiting for the one from the UK but I expected that...  and the guy I got it from was so very helpful in helping me with the shipping. So after all this, I should have a spare...  :good:

I will update here when I get it and when I get home...

Cheers
