Greetings:
Anybody up for a front end conversion?  This is pretty much everything needed to swap over. Parts are all in good shape. Legs will need a complete rebuild - seals, bushings, springs, wheel bearings,  stem bearings - all the usual stuff
This has been pretty thoroughly dicussed and written up on the FJ Mods site. Only thing I would differ with is I would swap out both upper and lower trees for '92 FZR 1000 parts. Spacing is the same, top has holes for dogbones if that's how you want to go for bars. No need to press out, weld and machine the stem with the FZRs.
To give some idea of costs, I rebuilt an FZR USD ( bascally the same front end minus the damping adjustments). Seals and bushings were around $200, springs about $120. Shop time was about 3-4 hours due to a lack of tooling at the bike shop. It would be best to make sure the shop has the equipment before commiting to the work.
I'm including everything in the pics. Tire's pretty much an antique but tread is good and there's no cracks. Axle and speedo drive. Fender has had one tab well repaired. Six pot calipers, master cylinder and lines.
I'm sure Mr. Conlon could offer some valuable tips if needed - same setup that he used.
I'm thinking $350 US is pretty reasonable for everything. I can box it up or build a crate but as usual, shipping's on the buyer. There's a fair amount of weight and volume involved.

Also have the 88 FZR wheel pictured. It's straight, minor scratching. With the discs - $150 US.

Winter's coming - this'd be a great way to pass the time.

Peter, where in Canada are you?

IIRC the fork spacing on the YZF750 triples is different than the FZR triples.
I remember hoping my FZR top triple (with trick rubber bar mounts) would fit with the YZF lower, but no go.

Yes, you can slide the YZF750 (50mm dia.) fork tubes into the lower and upper FZR triples, but, because of the different spacing, now, the YZF axle and fender won't fit. The YZF750 fork lowers uses a special stepped axle which is different than the FZR straight 17mm axle.

FWIW, I would recommend truck shipping for any large and heavy box (or crate).  Truck shipping rates vary wildly from one carrier to the next for identical services, so it is definitely worth the time to shop around by phone for the right shipping company.

Terminal-to-terminal truck shipping will often cost much less than door-to-door service.  The seller drops off the box at the starting terminal, and the buyer picks up the box at the destination terminal.
Cheers,
Red

P.S. Life is too short, and health is too valuable, to ride on cheap parade-duty tires.

Pat: You're right Pat. I have both types on the bench here and they are different. The ThunderAce top yoke is the one they recommend, not the FZR. So, looks like pressing and welding and machining is back in the equation. Never hurts to measure.
Red: Truck shipping is probably the best way to go, depending on the destination. There's too much weight there in one package for the Post Office to accept. I can drop at a terminal in upstate NY but there's $60 worth of gas and a temporary vendor permit ($10) courtesy of US Customs involved. Relatively easy to get accurate estimates on shipping before anybody commits to this. In Canada, truck shipping has been very reasonable.

I'm just outside Ottawa, about 150 miles north of Syracuse NY.

FYI, Spiegler makes a top triple clamp for the YZF750 that has handlebar bar clamps and is plug and play with the FJ/YZF750 front end swap.
No need to dick around cutting 2mm additional out of a T-Ace top triple (from 48mm to 50mm) and then drilling for bar clamps.
The Spiegler clamp comes from Germany and is a very very nice piece of CNC machine work.

Call Spiegler and just order the top clamp. No need to pay the additional $$ for the whole kit.

Update here:  Front end is sold, on its' way to a good home on the West coast. Thanks Derek.
Still got the '88 3.5" wheel. I had some time to kill so I removed the tire and stripped all the paint off. Took me about 3 hours but it looks pretty good. Discs are right around 3.5mm. I have a pair of silver discs as well so if anybody's interested, they can have their choice. They're about 3.5mm as well.  $150 US
And a nice pair of '92 mirrors. Repainted the bodies in satin black. Weights are solid. Glass is good. Honestly, I took them off because I was sick of looking at my elbows and couldn't see directly behind me. Now that you've read the ringing endorsement, I figure they're worth $70 for the pair.

Thanks, Peter

Hey Pete, on the '88 FZR front wheel package: Those FZR disks (rotors) are 320 mm dia. Correct?

If so, we can't use them on our FJ forks (unless you use special adapter mounting plates on your calipers)

Although, they will fit fine on a '91-93 USD FZR front end conversion or the YZF 750 USD conversion.

Right you are again Pat - one set of the discs is 320. The other set off my old '88 are the correct 300mm. Thanks for pointing that out.
