Hi All

An idea has been floated on the Aussie FJ Facebook Page for a rally to be held in Tasmania. The premis being that some of the best roads in Australia are not actually part of the Australian mainland. If a rally were to be held in the Apple Isle, in say 2020 (next years is alrady planned for Mount Seaview on the Oxley Highway) then planning would have to begin fairly soon. Just wondering if any of the non Facebook riders from Oz would be interested in attending such an event? We can then put the idea to the power that be.

Sounds Great Mark,

Tassie is a bit like Hawaii, same climate.
Last time I was there, it was very pleasant riding but that was a few years ago.
It did look as though the Tassie Government ran out of money on the road signs, there was no corner speed advisory sign, just the arrow.

Now I know in Australia when riding on a road and there is just an arrow, no need to slow, so we followed the same rules.....
We soon learnt. but it was good

Bring it on Mark

It is uncanny how some where so close to the Antartic can have such a tropical climate. lol  :rofl2:
There are a few riders down there that keep bragging about how good the roads are in Van Demons Land. "Billiard Table" smooth, I think was the quote.
The Road sign thing could be cost cutting measures or maybe they thought they would just remove all the warning lables and let nature sort it's self out.
I have never been, but it is on my bucket list to do, and thought if we could get enough intrest, then the Committee may look at the option.

There are great roads in Tassie but the road surfaces are anything but "Billiard Table" smooth. The best roads are the secondary roads, great corners, fantastic scenery, great small towns and very minimal traffic, the road surfaces however can vary from brilliant to absolute crap in a very short distance. The major roads usually are of a lot better quality surface but you have to mix with a lot more traffic. (still not busy compared to mainland highways) To me, the best roads are always the more deserted back roads regardless of which state you are riding in.
We did a great Tassie tour last November, guided by a great rider, tour guide and good mate Len (native Tassie Devil) Eight fantastic days of great riding, eating, drinking and fun, I"d do it again in a heartbeat. Start saving your money now as it's not a cheap place to get to and you tend to spend lots of money whilst you're there.
A big thumbs up to a Tassie Rally.  :good2:

Can't promise but we would be interested. Maybe rather than just an overnight the rally should be over three days??. Unfortunately for me its the price of fuel coming from Perth as well.
See you at Rally 2019

For me it could now possibly be a 2 for 1 deal, as my daughter announced last week that she is looking at moving to Launceston with her boyfiend in the near future.

Having never been overseas, a Tassie Rally would be fantastic for me. I agree with Bozo that the rally should be over, say, three days.
At our last F3A comp in Albury, we had about six competitors from Tassie, so I feel the Main Land FJ'ers should support our Tassie riders.
