I'm looking for the part number for this cowling screw and associated plastic washer (see link). Its the ones on the side scoops of my 1989 FJ. Can't seem to find it in the parts diagram.

Here is the actual part number for the screw and washer.

Fred, I thought that was the OEM part number too so I ordered a few of them and received a small tapping screw that is nothing like the OEM screw for the fairing. The dealer wasn't able to find the one on the parts diagram. I'm wondering if they've changed it here in Canada to some other number.

Randy, I'm in Canada so was hoping to be able to order from the dealer here since I'd likely pay much more shipping and border charges for a a couple of screws than its worth.

aviationfred

Wow, definitely not the screw that is needed.  :unknown:

This part number is for the screws that left and right infill panels use.... This should be the correct part number.

Tetrec,
In the USA, the printed phone directory for any business is called the Yellow Pages.  "Nuts and Bolts" here is a separate listing in the book from the usual hardware store (ironmonger? ).   We have a real Internet Yellow Pages (www.anywho.com), and the rest are wannabees.  That link will show you a list of stores, doing that same business.  You can Sort the list by the distance from your postal code.  If Canada has anything similar, you may be able to get what you need.  Your phone company may be able to help, there.

If all parts simply must be Yamaha, of course, then best wishes.
Cheers,
Red

Thanks Fred I found the image of that part number and I think that looks correct.

Red, I could source a similar part elsewhere but since these bolts are used on both fairings and console figured it would be best to try and get the oem ones to match properly if they are still available.

Tetrec,

No problem, man.
Plan B would be to change all similar bolts/screws at once, as a set.  Paint to match if needed.  Nobody will know.

I've used stainless steel M5 button head Allen bolts at 12mm length [bought from a local engineering supply shop (20 pence for 10) with M5 plastic washers (10 pence for 10) from the same place] in place of the originals where they are covered up and managed to get enough good originals from those I took off the bike so that the visible ones (2 in each side scoop and one in each inside panel) are now all decent originals.

Originality where it's seen, practicality (and better quality) where it's hidden  :good2:
