I had once read somewhere long ago that the XJ900S-Diversion used a similar or same clear lens for the gauge cluster, as the FJ does.
Since my crash last August completely destroyed my factory cluster, and my spare FJ1200 cluster had a busted lens as well, I found myself in need of at least a new lens cover.
Given the lofty price of a new lens, I began searching for a good used cluster with a suitable clear lens.
Having remembered the notion that the lens may be the same as the Diversion-900, I figured I would search those as well.
Since we never got this bike in the US, I began searching Europe listings as well.
I ended up finding a suitable used cluster from a 2002 XJ900s located in the UK.  The lens appeared the same as the FJ, and the speedo is graduated in MPH. (Some that I found were in KPH) The price was more than reasonable so I purchased it and had it shipped to me.

Upon receiving it, and studying it next to my spare FJ cluster, the two clusters are nearly identical with only one exception. Housings are the same. Lenses are the same. Tach redline is the same as the FJ. It has more modern warning-light icons, but everything is in the same place.
The first two pictures are the two clusters side by side. FJ1200 cluster on top. XJ900 cluster on the bottom.
The one exception to the housing on the XJ900, is that it has en extra mounting lug at the top center on the back. I would have removed it, but when I recieved it in the mail it was already snapped off.
Then I simply swapped my FJ1200 harness on to the XJ900 cluster due to the connector plugs being different.
All of the gauges hook up exactly the same
It mounts to the FJ exactly the same, and it is 12 years newer than my factory one and has around 100,000 less miles on it.  :good2:
After riding with it for a couple months, I can report that all the gauges work the same as the FJ factory gauges did. The speedometer is off by about the same as my factory one was, as compared to my GPS. The tachometer reads the same, and the fuel gauge works exactly the same.

I am not exactly sure which years of Diversion are compatable, but it's at least a newer option for a replacement for our aging FJ's.

A pistol is like a parachute, if you need one and don't have one you will never need one again.

Thanks Alan. Good option!

You just Let-err have it! And don't look down at your gauges.............. :bye2:

My GPS records highest speed attained, so I can always review the trip data.
Honestly, I don't see myself wanting (nor do I believe my FJ could get up there with me on it) to bury the speedometer for any reason.

Yea, when you get up in that range, the speedo needle wiggles so much it's useless. The tach is the more accurate indicator.

Did this mod on my 3CV ('89) a couple of years back when the fuel gauge started wagging too much. Cured that problem.
And if you have an '89, you need to move the self-cancelling indicator sensor on to the Diversion speedo drive.
Unfortunately I am no longer young enough to know everything...
