Paddy, you're invited too!  Oh, sorry.  You fled the country :empathy:  You're missing nice 75ªF weather too.  Oh well, maybe when you come back!

Ha! I'm not missing the 110* weather in Palm Desert, no siree.
It's ~78* here in Samara, Costa Rica with 80* water and evening showers. The rain in Costa Rica is absolutely crazy. Rain is not a accurate word, it's more like a monster deluge.
I do miss riding my FJ, 'tho not in Palm Desert in the summer, and in no fucking way would a FJ work in Costa Rica..

All motorcycles in Costa Rica are 125cc dual/dirt bikes. No road bikes. The size of the numerous craters in the muddy dirt roads here would easily swallow a bike or tear the wheels off a car. For safety, the local Ticos put their old furniture in the pot holes, so drivers can see how deep they are and thus avoid them.
When these monsters get full of rain water you can not tell how deep they are so it's common to see a old kitchen chair or sofa stuck in a pot hole with just the top 6" showing above the roadway. Deep is a understatement.

Eddie, our cartridge forks are good, but not that good.....

Cheers amigo, congrats on your new improvements.
Thanks again to Jon Cain for showing us the way on the YZF600 cartridge fork conversion.

ATTGAT;  Ride safe and well.   Pura Vida.

At 0100, it's still 93 in Dallas.  Heat index this weekend is supposed to be near 110.  My bikes are all covered in my well insulated garage.  I may have to turn on the air conditioner, though (that would be the a/c in the garage :-).

I almost did that on Tuesday.  Instead, from my house I did Mulholland past the Rock Store, up Stunt Rd, down Piuma Rd, then balance of Mulholland to the Valley.  After lunch I felt so good & comfortable that I went up Angeles Forest, Upper Big T, Angeles Crest to Wrightwood, then home.  My little test became a 250 mi.  grin-fest!!!

Let's go.  You have the number.  San Dimas Mike, 3JagSteve, Mazza, who else?

Ed, are they letting traffic through the Angeles crest/forest roads now? The web sites and freeway signs still have the roads closed. I can get a ride in tomorrow (Sunday) if you want meet up somewhere. Steve is not likely to make it but I can call Mike and see what his plans are. Don't know Mazza but the more the Kookalooier it will be. More than two makes it a mini rally right? Maybe trying to keep up with you will motivate me to ditch my stock (Anti-Dive) forks and 16" wheel. :drinks:

OK, I got another 80 mile spin before the asphalt returned to a liquid state yesterday.  I'm now convinced that these cartridge forks really are the :bomb:.  I covered a really crappy road that FJMonkey, 3JagSteve & I did last year, with radically better results.  The road surface that beat us to a pulp was still there, but at more than 15-20 mph, the forks just absorb the bumps.  They're still there, you still feel the tire hitting the bumps, but there's no loss of contact/chatter, no front end push due to loss of traction, no ill effects at all.

Damn, I'm glad I listened to all YOU smart folks & did this!
If you're on the fence, Do IT!  You'll be really happy!   I am.
