Wondering if.anyone has ever vinyl wrappped.their FJ?  Doing mine this winter in flat black carbon fiber.  Red accents in discrete places.  Should be a good look for.it.

If I ever get my shop/house done. I will be making some parts out of carbon/Kevlar, black and blue fabric.(have black/red, and black/yellow too) For the turbo bike. But Fred did the dip carbon parts.

I did my side scoops in a CF wrap, some of the shape is difficult to make look good. And it did not all stay in place. I cannot speak from any experience as I had only seen application examples on YouTube. So my efforts are on the early side of the learning curve. Long before Fred did the CF dip I had plans to be the first but Fred beat me to it. And it looks really well done. A few others have also added the CF look to their FJs with good results.

Dan, are you gonna autoclave the CF parts? I wonder how much the CF/Titainum costs? Less shatter when impacted.

Yah Monkey. I wish I had an autoclave. No just making one off stuff. Like the intake for the one flatslide. Formed it out of foam. Will hand lay it over the foam. And clean the foam outta the carbon/Kevlar shell then smooth out the inside. it's going to be in place of the point of the side panel on the right side. So you won't hardly notice it.

Tim,

Sounds good.  There are many how-to videos on YouTube for vinyl wrapping.  Some types stretch and form better than others.  For some brands, you can pre-heat and pre-stretch the material before applying the vinyl, to smoothly cover compound curves.
Keep us posted . . .     :mail1:

I tired to put a clear protective wrap on the fuel tank of my 1100. After 4 hours of stretching and heating and swearing, it was on and still looked crap. This was because not only does the tank curve over the top, but it then curves in, where your knees go,  so you end up with a heap of creases and excess wrap. I then stuffed my paint trying to remove it.
I hope your turns out OK.

Started the wrap with the side covers.  Hard to learn but it will get done.  I am using seams with cut tape on the tank to avoid the curves at knees problem(s).  The fairing is the biggest challenge.  I may or may not post pics ... LOL.  Thanks for your replies.   :good2:

I think I would have just kept the red paint....  :-)

That is one advantage of the wrap. The paint is still there (and protected from the wrap), just remove the wrap. The down side that I can see on the tank is where the wrap is stretched to fit the concave shape. Maybe just the difference of good and bad qualities of product. But I have seen where the wrap pulls out of corners. I presume from a hot day in the sun getting the wrap and adhesive all soft and gooey. I wonder what wrap cost for a tank, vs. paint.

Progress.  Right side cover done.  Satin black top with vinyl wrap below.  Used original red stripe with new custom made logo.  Not perfect but close.  Very satisfied.  Left side next.  Toughest is going to be front fairing.

Doe the infill panels on mine.  Hydrographic. Water printed with 2pak clear. Not expensive either.
