Another long-time lurker, tracing a 15year long forum path all the way back to the 'hotel california' of the old fj-netpath days ('you can un-sub but you can never leave'). I started my FJ addiction in 1989 with an 84 1100, which I promptly jetted and Supertrapped.  I caught the fever, and soon found myself continually upgrading Thor, which I still own - 85 FJ1387 with a K.Black built 'detuned' (their words) Megacammed big block.  Back cut gears, MSD, 5 degree ign, suppertrapp full SS, KZ1000 clutch, Mikuni Radial Slides, Corbin, Progressives front and rear...  And it soon became quite the elite garage queen...  Mostly because the rider has to be fully on game to drive it well/hard.  I did a lot of quarter mile nights with it in through the 90's, and occasionally trailered it to some favorite roads (Deals Gap NC, Route 299 CA, Angelas Crest CA, Rte 299 CA, Rte 6 PA/NY, Rte 209 NY, Resevoir dogged in the catskills).  Total miles is under 20k, and last year, I doubt I put more than 500 miles on it, but it starts and runs like a clock (save a sticky carb float).  December 2009 I added a 35k mile 92 1200 to the stable...  What's better to share with a weakly disguised race machine, than a more sport-tour friendly brethen of the same plaque?

I'm already 600 miles into the 1200 just last week.  It's a clean TX ride, has a lot of new stuff done to it: V&H SS exhaust, carbs rebuilt and jetted, new chain, drives, and tires.  I'm holding off going at this one with the same fury as the last, but I know I got spoiled with Thor, as I'm wringing the 1200 out constantly to redline, and really found I got lazy having all that low end grunt in the big dog.  My good friend and fellow Audi-nut captaudi is keeping me fully up to date on his latest non-engine FJ upgrades, and I plan on some serious ones again as time permits.  Trying to keep the lid on swapping the engines, as I'm guessing that exercise would put both bikes out of commission for the season.  For now, just enjoying comparing the rides and taking notes, and fully enjoying both for what they are.

Looking forward to getting more involved here, and once again sharing more riding experiences.  Good to see some old familiar names have moved on to this forum, and I admit to fully enjoying the bulletin format.

Thanks for the welcome!  I'll get some pics up as soon as I can.  FYI, Thor has everything very tightly shoe-horned into the stock bodywork.  About the only thing that shows from outside is I did double up a set of oil stock coolers into the stock location.  I also added a modified dark blue 90 gas tank to get better flow to the radial slides, and haven't painted that yet, so the 92 looks a whole lot better!  

For many years, I never shared the secrets of that big dog.  Not really sure why (likely comes from the competition motorsports side of me), but I've spent the last couple years, trying to find all the paperwork of the Thor project.  Much of it was hidden from my wife at the time, so that archival reconstruction has been quite a challenge.  Thankfully at the time, my corporate commission checks were high enough to fund such a kookaloo project, and keep it under the radar.

My standard quote goes back 15 years...  It's just peppier than stock, that's all.    :morning1:

Well good morning Scott,

Glad you jumped on the FJowners forum. For all of you Scott is the one that grabbed my 93 FJ in Chicago when I bought it on eBay. His inspection and report of condition was perfect and he delivered it to my house in MA as planned.

Scott is a top guy with extremely high technical knowledge and understanding in the German car arena. His prowess with Audi turbos is well regarded. He will always provide input on forums and his posts are well written and well thought out.

I've usually used Thumper, but that was already taken here.  Also used pdqship in the early days...

Thanks Dan, I hope that endorsement has no reflection on you if I fail miserably.  At some point, we have to put a couple of bikes on the trailer, and share some 2 wheeled stories.  Just doesn't seem that many miles ago, I dropped your bike off in MA.

Andy, my best time on the quarter a few years ago now: 10.05at143.  Front and rear strapped, open supertrapp, open velocity stacks, 114octane.  That was my last run of the night, where I hit 3 prior consistent 10.5 runs.  I'm convinced a 9 is doable, but even strapped, the bike went up immediately.

What's with this trailer $hit. Its all about the ride brother :good2:. You and I can find roads anywhere, no need for trailers. By the way check out the New England rally thread. I expect to see you there.

Randy is right Dan, it is a midwest thing.  Needing to replace a tire before I get east or west to have fun, just isn't my thing.  What I can say about my 20k mile Beast, is that just about all those miles were pretty hard core:  From Superbike school, to dragstrip, to Angela's Crest, to ToD, to the catskills.  Now to somewhat appease you Dan, I do plan on mounting a trailer hitch on my 84 Audi Turbo Quattro, and using that classic GT to haul my toys. :good:  

And you can't give me too much grief this year, as I've racked 600 miles of riding the 1200 just last week.  
I'll ck out the New England Rally, I really want to make that work.
