What's up with Photobucket

I saw X-Ray's avatar was some sort of gauge that read 100%. I then saw Noel's comment and thought maybe Ray had changed it.

Well, no he did not. I was looking through some old posts of mine today and all of my photos I had posted through Photobucket have the same photo as Ray.

Well, needless to say, I went and read the new terms of service policy and there is a real dozzy...

Photobucket is no longer allowing "3rd party" hosting of their images on the "free plan".

So, the first plan that allow the use of 3rd party hosting is listed below...

o Plus 500 Plan: 500 GB of Storage and unlimited bandwidth for $399.99 / Year. The Plus 500 Plan allows for unlimited image linking and unlimited 3rd party image hosting.

I'm sorry, but I am not going to pay $400.00 bucks a year to host my photos that I cannot link to forums.

What other options are out there, or am I going to have to go through and just attach the photos to the topics instead...?

Oh yeah, and one more thing you get with the $400.00 plan is...no ads and their ads are actual pop ups that block the screen...

I use Flickr:

https://www.flickr.com

Works well and is free.  There are premium levels, but free is pretty good and works for all my photos here.  Premium+ (highest level) is $50/yr.

I'm just sitting here now Randy in a quandry trying to work out what other photo storage site (free or minimal cost) is worthwhile. Photobucket are being totally ridiculous with those prices, Flickr appears to still allow forum linking of images etc as Frank has mentioned.  Theres a lot of posts online about this issue, only happened 2 days ago.  :ireful:    Time to look at removing my albums from photosucket and upload to flickr  :rofl2:

Edit, Just downloaded one album from photobucket, reloaded to flickr, and edited my signature here to show the new wheel swap album images. Works well, and Flickr is MUCH faster and way better layed out for viewing than photobucket could ever hope to be. Time to grab a beer, a few hours of sorting/reloading and relinking to do know,  :drinks:

I just checked a bunch of my old posts and all my pics are still there. I'm just a free member at 18% capacity.  Maybe this is something they will be gradually rolling out. I will be hopefully posting something within the next couple of days with some pics. I'll see if they will link.

Ray, like Frank, I have used Flickr since day one, no problems. Funnily enough though I was giving thought to changing over to some other site like Photobucket, might put that thought on hold permanently now!
The reason for contemplating a change was the photo editor in Flickr has been down for about 6 mths, I use this constantly and miss not being able to tweak my photos. Guess I'll just have to suck it up until they fix it.
If you are not in the habit of using the associated editor then I guess you won't miss it. In all other respects, Flickr has been great, easy to use from my experience and highly recommended.

If someone could write an app that would move all your photobucket pics to another host you could make a tidy little profit right now ...  (popcorn)

I guess I am most frustrated there was no advisement before the new policy was put into place.

Time to jump ship, just have to figure out how to transfer the files.

Testing.

Not sure what's going on, I'm with photobucket and still seems to be working for me.

Mmmm, appears to be working for some and not others, but going on what they are saying, it's only a matter of time before all links are cut. I've started downloading my albums from photobucket Randy, doesn't take long and then I am reuploading to Flickr. Have to redo all of the message links to the photos new location, which will take ages, but the layout and speed of Flickr makes me realise I should have changed long ago.

Ray, your avatar message seems to suggest that you've just used 100% of your storage?

Try it again when you've removed some files.

No, I had only used around 79% of my storage allocation, so still think it is going to be a global cut of the free account access/linking etc. But doesn't matter, just have to get everything transferred to Flickr and relink

testing my new flickr  account.... how do i get the pics to show up here instead of just the link to the pic?

Find the Share arrow of the image you want to show, then pick the BBCode option. Use the PREVIEW to remove the excess code before posting.
