What is the difference between an 84 and an 85 FJ, I have no idea , hoping someone here can let me know.

As far as I know only the paint scheme. Hopefully others will chime in here.

Yes Dave, that is also my understanding. The only change I've been informed by Randy was that about 1/2 way through the production run of the '85's they changed from the flat bottom carb slides over to the curved bottom slides and the shrouded emulsion tubes (aka needle jets)
