Based on your description, no. Probably valve seal(s), allowing oil to leak by when it sits for awhile. Very little consumption, unless things get worse.

Seen it before, and other than being an occasional annoyance (and potential embarrassment), not a big problem.

scotiafj,

Yamaha makes a product called Ring-Free, which may be all you need there.  Dealers should have it, and Amazon, of course.

Motorcycle oil is simple stuff.  Automotive oils can be rather complicated.  The FJ Owner's Manual will tell you what is needed.

Beyond that, things can get complicated.  If you always use good air filters, you should still have a young engine there.  Some oil-and-foam air filters do not do the job, though, especially in dusty locations.
Cheers,
Red

P.S. Life is too short, and health is too valuable, to ride on cheap parade-duty tires.

Not wanting to add what could be another endless oil thread, but...  :pardon:

How long have you been using car oil in your FJ (or any other bike)?

Uhhhmmmmm.... isn't it usually the other way around?  M/C oils deal with far higher stresses than most cars due the the extra forces from the clutch and gearbox.

If you've been using car oil for the most part, that might be an overstatement.  Just my opinion.

Big air cooled engine with big tolerances. 10/40 can be a bit thin for them. Used it in my first 3CV, and it got through it about 1l/1000miles. Swapped to the club recommended Morris Ring Free 20/50, and consumption dropped to around 150ml/1000 miles.

Try Silkolene Super 4 20/50 semi synthetic. It's what's in mine now, I've used it since I first got the bike in Sept 09, and never seen any blue smoke and I maybe top up around 100-150 ml between changes, which for me can be up to 6000 miles. Which is why I prefer the semi synth, it lasts longer.

Though mineral oil, the Morris Ring Free is good stuff, but the Silkolene is also easier for me to get hold of.
Unfortunately I am no longer young enough to know everything...

+1 on the valve seals. Same on my air cooled high mileage Porsche 911. 250k and untouched... yet. Just keep oil in her and ride.
