Engine frame rails, are they swapable?

I pick up my 89 1200 on Saturday, cosmetically its pretty good all round except for the belly pan. So a replacement is on the list.  I do however prefer the frame hugging look of the earlier 1100 item.  I'm guessing that to fit my preferred option I'd have to weld some tabs to the engine frame rails.............or will a pair of rails from the 1100 bolt straight onto the 1200 frame?

Cheers.

The later model FJs, have rubber mounts. This may make a difference to swapping frame rails. Go to Parts Fiches here and swap back and forth between model years. See if the rails have the same part numbers, or maybe you can tell from their individual graphics, if they're comparable/swapable.

Good luck.
