Received my rear rim and other goodies for the swap yesterday. :yahoo:
Fitted a Battlax BT 54(180) on rim.

But run into some hick-up:SPROCKETS :shout:
Can't find a 18/38 set-up here in RSA.
I looked at RPM site, but with the shipping included,it not worth it,as the shipping is more than the parts itself.
What other set-up can I use?

Then on a side note,I want to look at other possibilities to mount torque arm,as I don't want to loose my centre stand and don't like the idea of mounting it to footpeg.
Can you guys that done this swap, maybe upload pic's on the mounting of torque arm. that I can get an idea on what possibilities there is.

Thanks
Hannes

Cut the tab for the torque arm off the top. And weld it to the bottom. Just bolt the tab to the torque arm after you have the offset worked out and use it  hold the tab in place for welding.
I have a picture of the swingarm with the torque arm welded to the bottom in my images. It's the 3rd or 4th picture I posted to my images on the forum. I can't get pictures from the gallery to a post anymore. And I no longer have it on my phone.

I have since gone to the gsxr600 rear brake caliper and mount. That has no torque arm. Bracket slides o. A tab on the inside of the swingarm.

I am not sure what the shipping to South Africa would be. But here is a link to a sprocket on eBay.

Fred

There is no problem about ordering 39,40 or 41T GSXR1100 sprocket from your JT country distributor directly. I do it and in 20-30 days I have the sprocket at home

I hope it helps, if anyone want different front & rear sprockets combos

Did you go all the way through the check out so you could select the shipping choice of 1st class or Priority Mail?

I am not sure if the weight of the sprocket exceed the maximum allow for priority mail or if you had other things in the cart that cause it to exceed that weight.

Another option is using the rear caliper and mount from a gsx750f it fits like the standard fj caliper..

Yes Randy,I did go all the way through the check out.
The 2 sprockets are $60,90.
Priorty mail is $63.50 and with First Class it is $57,25.

That is why I said it is not worth it,as it ads up to over $120 to get it here.

Yes, the shipping is terrible expensive from the US!. I dont understand why, because from here, Canary Islands, is half the price to US

Remove the swingarm today for the welding of torque arm tab.
What grease can I use for the bearings at all the swivel points, going to service it while swingarm is off.

I recommend a high quality Synthetic Marine environment grease. It is designed for wet and salty applications.

I don't know the specific brands that are local to you in South Africa. Here in the US.... RPM offers Redline grease, I have used both Royal Purple Ultra-Performance grease and Lucas Marine grade synthetic grease.

The auto shops says that they never heard of synthetic performance grease.
Asked if they have Redline cataloque but don't to their products.

Went to Yamaha, the machanic there said I should use a Lithium base grease that has waterproof resistance qualities.
I bought Castrol LM grease.

Tomorrow I receive the swingarm and torque arm back from paintshop.
Sprocket(ordered 17/40 as it is the only ones available in RSA) and chain will also be at bikeshop tomorrow afternoon.

Newly painted swingarm, dogbones and connection piece(don't know what it is called) between swingarm and shock.
Sprockets and chain also home.
Centre stand looks bad compared to new painted parts. As soon as wheel is installed, going to paint that as well.
Just waiting for new bearings for rear wheel, than I can finish up.
