Hi, Can anyone tell me how to remove  the ""Headlight Wiring Plug"" that is pushed onto the 3 prongs of the H4 Headlight Bulb ,
After removing the horn for access ,,   I can reach in and grab the Plug but it will not pull off the Bulb prongs.
Is their a trick to getting this plug off the Bulb, I need to replace the Bulb,
I can not feel any tabs on the sides of the plug that need to be  push in etc.
All other H4 Bulb replacements I have done in the past ,the Plug has just pulled off and then just pushed back on ,,easy

Thanks you

It slips off like you described. Just been stuck on for years.
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

Phil, I had to check earlier posts to see what year FJ you have....I see you have a '92
Here's a suggestion: In your signature line put the year FJ you have, sometimes it makes a difference.

I seem to recall on my old '92 I had to squeeze the sides of the plug to unlock the tabs before the plug would come off. However, I looked in my Clinton and Haynes manuals, nothing is mentioned about squeezing the plug. I checked the Yamaha Owners Handbook, it said to consult the dealer for headlamp replacment..

I wonder if the GYSM has anything....

OK  Yes sorry about that ,,I should have said what Year FJ it is .
Its my 94 model that I am changing the light Bulb in .
I have  2 X  FJ1200 . A 94 model and a 92 ,Both the same colour ( Black ,Gold ,Blue )
What I found was that the Plug was just stuck on very very very well , from old age.
I could get 3 or 4 fingers around the Plug fine and then I pulled and pulled with great force  , pushed it side to side  etc etc  ,
but it would just not let go at all .
I then used a large  18"  flat bladed Screwdriver .
I pushed the rubber sock back in enough so I could slide the flat screwdriver blade between the plug and the Bulb
and then I just twisted the screwdriver and straight off the Plug came ..easy as anything.
If I had not used the long screwdriver ,I think it would have not came off by hand with out breaking some thing..
So all is good .New Bulb installed .Horn back on , and the bonus is the Light and Horn both work..
thanks to all
regards Phil

Glad to hear you got it fixed. I checked my GYSM and it did not indicate how many FJ riders it took to remove a bulb. It also did not specify how many FJ riders it takes to install one. With the right screwdriver it obviously is a one rider job.

In my particular case in was a 4 rider job without the proper tool. Steve in Florida removing the bulb and three of us standing around to supervise.

A pistol is like a parachute, if you need one and don't have one you will never need one again.

Yes Dave  .It was all good fun .
The best thing is I might now be able to see all the wild life at night a bit better now.
OK this time I will try and attach the correct photos of my 2 x  FJ1200 s .
The Gold Wheels = 94 ,,White Wheels = 92
cheers Phil

For future reference, wriggling it side to side as you pull works them off.
