Different options to mount gsxr 750 torque arm

Hey fellow fj'ers. I have been reading about all the different ways that you guys mount your torque arm on the gsxr750/1100 rear rim mod. I have seen it mounted to the center stand tab, welded to the swing arm and another one where they bolted the arm to the inside of the footpeg mount. Do most of you fabricate your own torque arm? I have seen some some fancy aluminum ones with holes drilled and the sort. I have also seen the stock gsxr torque arm mounted up. What do you recommend I do?

It will depend  greatly on your skill set.  I had a tab welded to my swing arm, to use the stock gsxr torque arm. I found on the 1100 it was hard to locate it to the foot peg bolt and the tab gave a.more factory look.

I would shoot for welding it if my swinger was steel. But aluminum is a no-go. I know a guy for that though...

Anybody who made their own custom torque arm - please share it here. I would love to see it!

I used the OEM GSXR750 torque arm. I did take it to a guy that cut 2 inches out and re-welded it for me. For appearance purposes. I mounted mine using the foot peg hole. I did use a small spacer of about 3/8 of an inch as a stand off between the bearing and the frame.

I bolted a custom bracket to bottom of my swing arm, used the stock link after using heat and bending a joggle in it to clear the wider tire.

First I had the gsxr 750/1100 brake with the torque arm. I used the torque arm from my 87fzr1000 drilled aluminum. looks good. Simply cut the stock tab off the top of the swing arm. And bolt the tab to the torque arm. And weld it  place on the bottom of the swing arm. Simple and easy.

Then I discovered that the gsxr 600 had a brake caliper that has no torque arm. Simply slides on a tab on the inside of the swing arm. I have a bar that I had made for the tabs on the inside. Have enough for several more swingarms.. and have a spare swingarm with the tab on the inside.I was worried about welding on the aluminum. But my next door neighbor is a welder by trade and also a racer. Said he has welded many brace's and things to race swingarms.With no problems. He pointed out that the swingarm Is welded from the factory. Have a pro weld it and you have nothing to worry about.
Both my 1350 and My 89 have the 600 brakes.

Keep in mind that if you mount the torque-arm anywhere other than on the swingarm itself(ie: footpeg bolt, center stand bolt, etc......) the torque-arm you use will have to have some sort of bearing on BOTH ends. This is mandatory! If you tried to simply mount it with bolts, the up and down motion of the swingarm will eventually wear through the bolts, or the torque-arm, or both.
Monkey-Mark's solution with the bracket mounted with Riv-nuts would be the easiest solution, with no welding required.  Plenty strong mount for a brake torque arm.

Truth be told, the brake force will bear regardless. My concern was brake force while the swing arm was moving during normal travel (changing surface conditions) The distance between the mount point of the slave and the other end of the arm will either not change (if attached to the swing arm) or vary if attached to some other point. If you use the rear brake in corners like racers then attach it to the swing arm. If not then you won't notice the changes when braking while the swing arm is moving up and down.

I've got mine mounted exactly the same as Fred, spacer and all, and have wondered just how strong that mounting point would be if you had to stamp on the rear brake in an emergency, especially with a passenger on board. I hardly touch the rear brake when riding so it's never really been put to the test. Anybody ever seen how they were mounted on the Gsxr. Btw, I have the long arm with swivel points each end.

The gsxr 600 brake doesn't have a torque arm. The bracket slide on a tab on the inside of the swingarm. For chain adjustment.

I still think the way I did it. Cut the original tab off the top of the swingarm. Mount up the wheel assembly to the swingarm. Bolt the tab to the torque arm to hold it in the correct place. Weld it up. Done. Can't get any easier/simpler than that.

I use trail braking all the time. No problems. I really like to wheelie out of the round abouts. With the back tire spinning and walking the back of the 1350 over. As it straightens you out into the straightaway. I think that would put about as much torque on the swingarm as your going to get. No cracks for the small amount of weld it takes for the tab.

I have concluded that I like the FZR torque arm setup the best because it is aluminum and has the holes drilled out. My dad knows a guy who does great work so I will have him reweld the bracket mount after I cut it off. Thanks so much for the awesome responses. Some great folks in this group!
