84 FJ1100 Streetfighter build

This was a fast 3 week build,since I wanted to ride bike for the rest of summer/fall. This is the result, maybe not for everyone, I like a more minimalist bike and in that short time this is all I could come up with.
I can take more pics and post if anyone is interested, or if anybody wants to know stuff about it let me know, otherwise I will leave it at this.[/URL][/img] Still working on some sort of front fender and sewing up a better seat pad.

Ok since you asked,here are a few more shots ,close ups and couple during mock up.
I tried not to do any permanent changes , only a couple minor ones, so bike can be put back to stock . Personally I wont do that ,I like it a lot better this way, but if I choose to sell it all the parts can go with it and go back on the bike.[/URL][/img]

I originally was going to build a new normal subframe and got a R6 tail and seat to use, but after mocking it up I did not like the look . So I came up with the aluminum side plate idea instead and build the rest as I went along.
The plates are 1/4 inch thick high strength aluminum alloy. In between those is a 3/4 inch square tubing frame that has 18 gauge aluminum sheet metal fabricated up to make seat and under tail and close the rest in down to swing arm.
The battery is in original box that mounts to the new frame under seat and is just moved forward and all the wiring is in there with it.

I shortened the mufflers and mid pipes because I really dont like the long sticking way out back muffler look on any bike. The front has a led headlight and some led warning lights along with a cat eye bike computer as a speedometer and odometer.It goes to 200 KM per hour or 120 MPH  and works quite well for now.

Thats a good question, I was going to weigh all the parts I took off ,but have not gotten to that yet. I imagine it be at least 30 or more pounds, that exhaust alone is way lighter then what I hear the factory one weighs. And thanks, I like it. I have a hard time leaving stuff alone. Working on a 81 CB900 Super Sport also, hoping to get it done this winter . Its a more elaborate project with all different suspension,wheels and brakes and big bore engine kit and so on.

Another shot before seat pad and headlight stuff went on.

Also installed the RPM oil filter adapter, RPM UNI pods, cleaned up carbs and rejetted for the pods and exhaust.New Led blinkers and headlight up front and combo Led tail light/ blinkers out back with resistors.

I had  that same honda back in high school and my buddy wrapped it around a phone pole with only 1500 miles on it.  
worked out as I bought the 1100F with the insurance money.

Post up on the honda when you get it done.. This may be an FJ site but we enjoy all kinds of motorcycles.

1) what did you do with the fuse box that were held in the front left fairing?
2) did you make a dwg for that side aluminum plates?
3) what about the seat? Do you have a model in mind already?

The little fuse block I just tie strapped around one of the frame braces by the cylinder head so its out of sight but easy to get too. Also the flasher box that was up front too i move just behind the headlight. Having a bit of an issue with it ,blinkers are all LED and have resistors installed,but sometimes they don't seem to work when bike is moving. All the extra wiring I tied together and wrapped up with foil tape and its sitting above cylinder head.So far seems to work OK.

I made cardboard templates for the side plates until I was happy with the look, traced them onto the alu and used my band saw and jig saw to cut them out. then just a lot of filing and sanding the edges. Was a bit of work for sure but they are different from any Street Fighter that I have seen ,so I am happy with that.

The seat will be similar to whats there now,right now its just a foam pad covered with tool box drawer liner Really grippy. I picked up some of that carbon fiber look vinyl in black and will sew up a cover that looks a bit better,but overall will still be just a basic flat shape to go with the lines of the sheet metal. Like I said before ,I like the minimalist look.

cool looking streetfighter Harald    I wish i had a garage where i could work on some projects.My plan is to make a suzuki Gs1000G or Kawa z1000 streetfighter some day only streetfighter i made so far is a 1/12 scale modelkit kawasaki z900  Have you considered using the top front of the sidecovers i mean cutting out the curved piece  under the tank ? Have you painted the engine if so what paint did you use?

Thanks OLd Rider, I tried to have as little plastic on the bike as I can, don't want to close the pod area in. I didn't want to cut those tabs of the tank, just in case someone wants to return bike to stock some day.
I just quickly painted the upper cylinder area because the paint on them was all worn off. I used VHT Engine enamel,its only rated to 350 degrees but seems to stand up good so far. It was just a quick built so I didn't take the
whole bike apart to repaint everything properly. If I get my 900 done over the winter and have more time I will work some more on this bike.
