Unfortunately, things like that has a tendency to spread to other cities/countries...

It's not so crazy to anyone commuting in Europe's major cities. You'd be nuts to use your own vehicle. Cabs everywhere or walk; it's not that hard to get around the city core. These cities are heavily polluted. They have mass transit that works. The ban is only daytime hours on workdays when I wouldn't want to be on a motorcycle in any of those cities.

For Paris it's easy to get an exemption for "collector status" for a vehicle aged 30 years or older. FJ1100's actually are good for something.
Rome has regulated vehicles by age and by alternate odd and even plate numbers.

In Athens they have a saying, "If our cars had one more coat of paint, there'd be twice as many accidents."

This is pure shitty decision, I was just planning to visit it next year.  They could have done it like Germans, allow motorcycles everywhere and make compulsory for cars to carry a red, orange or green sticker and it is clearly marked by a traffic sign which sticker you need to have to enter particular (parts) of town. So called Umweltzone.

That's not surprising being France.  They've got regulations up the whazoo regarding everything.  I think you get a fine for not eating a baguette a day.

I bet this will kickstart electric vehicle market there. France relies heavily on nuclear power generation, so it will actually cut pollution significantly.

Maybe there will be some electric French bikes soon? French engineering has long been very interesting, but often too ahead of itself.

Not good  i guess Norway is doing the same soon .Here in oslo where i am they already have heavy restrictions on driving diesel cars and thats what i bought a year ago before the restrictions came

Luckily you've got your FJ.  You just need to figure out how to ride it in a meter of snow.

Ah heads up folks , This is part of the Paris Accords where the major majority of U.N. countries including the good ol USA signed it. Part of stopping global warming and goes into effect 2020 . Paris just started it early and it is coming to a country near you.

Yea Obama signed it as part of some global emissions reduction of 22%... who knows if we will actually do it. Being as our government tends to pick and choose what laws it enforces.

The countries that did not sign it were the worst emissions offenders , like China , Russia , All the South Americans countries.

just google Paris Accords 2016. happened two weeks ago while we were sleeping with almost no media coverage.

We signed it also, without having even a basic plan on how to do it - problem is  - to meet the reduction goals Canada will have to halt ALL oil production and shut down ALL manufacturing in the country.  And considering the present state of affairs - I wouldn't be surprised if they did it too.

If they want my FJ they'll have to catch me first, "and pry it from my cold dead hands".  Of course I could always move to China.

I think China has a better shot at compliance (to the Paris accord) than the USA.

Setting aside freedom and human rights issues for a moment, there is a certain advantage China has that western nations do not enjoy.

When China decrees something, their citizens or corporations WILL follow or suffer the pains of prosecution***
The do it or die mentality. The do it now.....or the state will kill you mentality. Some real fear going on there.

On compliance with environmental laws, the western nations are pussies by comparison.
"What are ya gonna do, sue me? Write me a ticket?"

***Yes, we know about China's corruption issues, but we also have corruption issues.

Yes, that execution thing can come in handy.  Even our new Prime Minister Mr Dreamy Justin Trudeau said during our recent election campaign "There's a level of admiration I actually have for China. Their basic dictatorship is actually allowing them to turn their economy around on a dime."   

Truth and Righteousness are not necessarily mutual. Despite that and many other gaffes he was elected.  We are just treading water economically, now we'll see if he can incorporate this without flushing us down the toilet again.
