Has anyone done a stick coil conversion for the FJ ?

just wondering if an air cooled lump might be pushing their reliability..................

I used a set of GSXR 1000 stick coils as part of my initial ego conversion.  Your biggest challenge will be the fact that are logic level (5v trigger signal) coils. I do not know if the output of the FJ ignition system can be used to trigger them or not.   They seemed to handle the heat of the FJ lump fine - they are a bit tall and had to turned just right to clear the tank.

Bottom line - go with the old standby proven solutions if you're not completely replacing the ignition system with a logic level output.

What's your goal in doing so?   :scratch_one-s_head:

I have read some other folk using them in series ie 2 in series for cylinders 1 & 4 and another pair in series for cylinders 2 & 3 on other earlier bikes.

This arrangement looks to be solving the 5v logic issue you mentioned using good old fashioned ohms law but I wonder how reliable they would be in that configuration ??

Best stick (no pun intended) to what I already have if noone else has any experience, especially if there are clearance issues.

I get that, but what's the goal... more output?
If so, have you added a relay to the coil circuit?  :pardon:

Good question. They are supposed to have less loss in the spark transfer area due in part from doing away with HT leads and plug caps.
There is a bit of fiddling with a new primary loom to adapt the current wiring but thats no bigger deal than the other changes to ignition and lighting that are being carried out elsewhere.
Also the loss of one coil MAY only see the bike running on 3 cylinders as opposed to 2 cylinders for a std coil set up - depending on the nature of the failure of course.
