Emergency unplanned Iron Butt ride.

This is not a happy situation.

A week ago or so, my mother fell out of bed and gashed her head pretty good. What should have been a quick ER visit with a few stitches. Has now turned into my mother fighting for her life. She has chronic COPD so her O2 levels were down and due to her age (69) they decided to keep her for 24 hrs to monitor her head injury. During that short time, she developed pneumonia. Her breathing declined to where a breathing tube was inserted. Her O2 levels rebounded after a few days and they removed the tube. Her breathing immediately took a nose dive, requiring the tube to be reinserted. This has been done twice. My mother has informed my Step Father that she does not want to be kept alive by machines and already has a no recessitate order in place.

I was notified Monday of this turn for the worse. I could not find a flight Monday night from Wichita, Oklahoma City, or Kansas City. Tuesdays flights were not much better. 5pm departures with midnight arrivals. Plus $700.00 and up prices.

I did a quick survey of the FJ....... A decision was made.....an emergency unplanned Iron Butt ride plus some. I departed Wichita at 6am yesterday and stopped just south of Atlanta, GA. at about 11pm with 976 miles. A quick 200 miles this morning and I made it to Beaufort, South Carolina.

I will be going to the hospital shortly so see my mom. The breathing tube is scheduled to be removed tomorrow and will not be reinserted. Everything will be in God's hands.
