Gsxr rear brake.

So I'm doing the gsxr rear wheel swap. I noticed the gsxr rotor looks smaller. Any performance difference?

Considering 80% of your braking is from the front and locking up the rear tends to cause a low side (or the rear feeling like a wet banana peel) , I think not. I have a GSXR rear wheel and rotor and can lock it up if I want.
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

From 1984 to 1993 the front brakes were terrible to marginal.  :dash2:

The rear brake on the other hand always worked exceptionally well. Even to some extent too well and requires a deft touch with the foot.

I have a GSXR rear wheel and find the rear brake is a bit less sensitive as the OEM rear brake. It still works well enough.

That's a bit harsh Fred, the later twin piston calipers with EBC pads are not too shabby at all, even better with steel lines.

I agree about the rear though and much prefer the less sensitive smaller disc.

I've found running HH front with organic rears provide a nice balance...  you can modulate the rear through a lockup quickly and, IMHO, that's the test.

While we're on the subject of rear brakes, I've got a gixxer wheel with the front of the torque rod mounted to the inside of the foot peg via a longer bolt as a few here have done. Question is, does anybody know how much strain that bolt will take before braking, and would it be as strong as a swingarm mounting. I hardly ever use the rear brake because with sintered pads it squeals a bit when used, but in an emergency stop will that bolt be up to the task of slowing that weight plus passenger down.

Not sure what grade bolt it is as the markings on the head are different than what I've seen online, but it has three strokes side by side so I'm assuming grade 5. Has anybody who uses the rear brake frequently ever had any problems with the strength of that mounting point as its not exactly a factory fitting.

I've often though about the same thing Tony, but mine has been going for 5 years, no problems. Actual braking efficiency on the other hand, even with a recent full brake rebuild is marginal at the rear for me. But, as Monkey has said, that's what front brakes are for

Yeah Ray, just something thats been in the back of my mind , don't want to slam the brake on only to find the caliper spin around and do all sorts of damage. As for braking efficiency, I've never tried it in anger but applying it gently you can feel it slowing it down so guessing it would be about half the power of the stock one.
