FJ rallies in the north east?

Very interested!  Bethel is about 1/2 hour from Mt Washington, and very near the rest of the white mountains.  And Rt 2 (road that Bethel is on) is on the way to some good roads.  Check the web sites Mark has listed out and then check a map.

Bethel strikes me as the best place ..... that gives everyone an option and puts us close to the good riding.


let's get a few more replies here and settle the dates and then we can make reservations.

i'm thinking we should have all the major details settled by the end of the week.

I will volunteer my moderate amount of tools and a good sized charcoal grill.  I will also bring as much firewood as I can fit into the trailer with the bike.  If some from away want to UPS stuff they don't want to carry on their bikes to me, I can tote it to the rally site.  Then before you go, just drop off at a ups store to go back.

We should probably be a bit careful on bringing our own wood.  I have stayed at camp grounds/ cabins where they forbid bringing your own as, depending on how far the wood is being brought in from, it can import destructive bugs/ funguses etc. 

Collecting/ buying local may be the way to go.  I know the other east coast rallies tend to get a big pile delivered from somewhere local.

Dan, good point--I will check with the owners before we go--where ever we end up. I'm bringing a truck and a trailer so I can definitely bring fire wood if they permit it.  I can bring a grill also.  and a screen tent to throw gear in if needed.  and some tarps

I found another possible option for us --this one is in Bethel Maine,  1 hour 53 minutes closer to the mountains than Saco.
The Pleasant river Motel and next door The pleasant river campground--(two separate businesses.)

I spoke to Michelle at the campground.  They have a variety of sites as well as group sites with campfire area.  The group sites are away from the smaller sites...she said a perfect place to make a fire and drink beer.  She has no problem with motorcycles--or their drivers--her family rides--they have and have had motorcycle rallys there and she seemed familiar with the routine.

The group site is $7/ tent minimum of 10 ---($70)   these group sites are 'primitive sites'--no water or electricity, however there is a bath-house handy to to the site.

tent sites with water  & elec are $26

camper sites for $28 -$30.

She has a camper for rent that sleeps 3 for $90

She has a condo that sleeps 4 for $100

The motel next door has rooms with 1 queen and rooms with 2 double beds.  $49 on weekdays---$75 on weekends

I havn't been there but can check it out if there is interest. 

Both the motel and campground have openings in July and august.

I'm not trying to undermine the Saco option however, Any interest in this option??

glad you made the call and for what its worth the bike ride from bethel to rangley is a whole lot nicer than the ride from saco to rangley.

In our conversation, when I told her that a campsite next to mom and dad their two toddlers probably wouldn't work, she mentioned that its mostly adults who stay there--not many kids usually and that the group sites are not right next to the tent sites.

she was funny--when I started explaining what I was looking for, she said 'oh, you mean a rally?'

I really like the Pleasant River sites. Plenty of trees for the Hennesey  I'm in no matter where though 
Good point about bringing in fire wood from another state. Just read and article in the local newspaper about banning it from Maine. Hancock Lumber has a sawmill in Bethel, I'll call there tomorrow and see what they do with their slab cuts.
