Hey guys,

New guy and a lurker here. I am down outside of Worcester MA. I would love a Maine rally, getting down south is a little hard with 2 young kids. My folks are in Harpswell outside of Brunswick on the coast. I can help with a coastal route if needed, I can also provide mechanical help if needed during the rally.

Also looking for other riders for the occasional blast on a weekend.

:drinks: :drinks: cheers Dan, and congratulations on being the only guy in Mass. to speak up!
look forward to seeing your bike in that picture of FJ's  on top of MT. Washington.

okay guys i have been looking and thinking of places for us to stay for the rally, there is plenty of campgrounds, buy my nights in a tent ended years ago. hotels or motels don't really give us a spot to let loose. if everyone had motor homes RV parks would work, but i'm thinking most people are like me, no motor home.

also our state is so big we can't really ride in it all in just a couple days. it seems most people were interested in the mountain roads. which is perfect for off season rentals in the ski areas. Sunday river is probably the best spot. the rates are pretty reasonable in the summer, we would be able to stay right in the mountains, there is (i think) a night club up there and a spot for us all to hang out together. this would be perfect for the wife that is worried about their privacy, and perfect for the guys that can only go by convincing the wife it is a vacation. they also run the Gondolas in the summer time, giving the wife's something to do if the boys wanted to go riding alone.

i would love to stay in the Rangley lake area beautiful scenery great mountain rides but makes for a 3 hour ride just to get to the Kancamagus highway.

Sebago Lake has a lot of cottage/cabin rentals but this is in the peak season and not as close as Sunday river is.

just some thoughts i would love to hear peoples reactions.............

James here,
I'm down is Salem, MA and plan to get the FJ on the road next week. :good2: I'd be up for some scouting rides any time. Been up to the Kancamangus a number of times. 617-719-6448. Work will always keep me from gettin' to Boone, and the Fall rally is a two year planning thing. A rally up this way in July would be great.

my nights in a tent ended years ago.

10-4 on that, anything with a roof and a bed will suit me.

The Sunday River area would put us central to Rangley and Mt. Washington/Kancamagus HIway/?  Scenario//Stay @ Sunday River area and ride to Rangley one day and back to Sunday River//ride to Mt Washington (and Kancamagus time permitting ) the next day?.    Does that make sense?  I'm open to all ideas... just throwing it out there.

Are you familiar with the KOA campground and the Kabins? the set up they offer works great for rallies and I would think that anything similar would work. For reference we use the Tellico Plains TN, and Boone NC KOA's for the east coast rallies. there should be more info here:

The Sunday River plan sounds perfect, I'm very impressed with the thought you Maine guys are putting into this! Now I just have to get me and the bike up to speed...

i think we can do Mt Washington and the Kancamagus no problem. hit mount washington first only aprox 1 and half hours from sunday river (to the top) depending on traffic. but then take a counter clockwise rotation around the white mountains come down 93 ( a road i was hoping to ride on) straight to the Kancamagus.

i have about 3 or 4 routes mapped out, each around the 6 hour drive. but i am assuming we won't be spending a lot of time below the speed limit.

anyways i am trying to figure out how to post maps on here i'm getting closer

this might work 184 miles about 5 hours 23 minutes.

A is sunday river
B is mt. washington
C is Kancamagus start
D is Kancamagus end.
E back to start.

most of these roads are on google earth where you can see street view just like your riding on the road. check it out.

The map makes it REAL! That is a great route, I guess I'll stop looking through my falling apart road atlas and sign on to this plan. If anybody wasn't up for the full haul they could cut down 16 after Mt. Washington to Conway and make a shorter loop back. Incredible job planning and listening to everyone's input.

what is the pavement like up there?

carsick

What is this "pavement" you speak of? Hopefully by June/July the ground will have thawed and the bigger holes will be patched. I remember NH roads (2 yrs ago) being very smooth compared to VT.

I am definitely on board for that route. Looks like a good day. Anyone have a feeling for how the ride from Brunswick area to Sunday river is? I would probably ride to my folks house in Harpswell the day before and then on to Sunday River.

I have lurked on this forum since its birth, it will be great to finally hook up with some of you guys.

Also any thoughts on when? Need to give the wife a heads up.
