+1 on that! I could siphon enough gas out of the plow truck to make it to Maine. Even convince the family to follow along in the chase vehicle. What good roads have ye there? Come on Northeasterners! Let's hear it!

Travis398

Maine isn't known for flat or straight roads, there is plenty of mountains on the west side and coastline on the east side. maybe before i consider starting something, it would be nice to know how many of you guys are interested?  :good2: :good2: well lets hear it.

Travis398,
Let me know, I will help.  I would want to check on road conditions.  Up in Bangor they are little better then carriage roads.  Acadia National park would be good I think, especially the Cadillac Mountain rd.  How are the roads in the Carabasset valley?

Murray, that's pretty accurate.  I was thinking more along the lines of 'goat paths' as a descriptor for the Bangor area roads.  However  Rt#9 (the airline) is in good shape now. A possible loop could be Bangor to Ellsworth and continute on Rt#1 to Calais and then back to Bangor via Rt#9. Mapquest says it's a 245mi // 5-1/2 driving time.
Also, in Ellsworth, we'd only be 30 minutes from Bar Harbor/ Acadia Nat. Park if anyone would be interested in that 2 hour tour.

The drive up the coast is senic, though I havn't done it in many years--(road condition?) Also, these roads aren't "the twisties" ---pretty much touring.  Except of course for the ride up Cadillac Mountain if we went to Acadia--it's like going up a spiral staircase with no handrail.

I'd be interested.

the roads in the mountain areas are really good, at least rt. 26 all the way to New Hampshire you could loop around that way or go through the rangley lake area and come back on rt 26 i would have to check the milage. looks like it would be a ride. i also hear 201 toward Canada is a really scenic route with some twisty sections. maybe we could do the coastal route one day and mountain route the next? maybe find a campground site in the middle somewhere to stay?

Travis398,

We used to ride the kangamagus hiway --east central N.H.-- back in the '80s. Same general area that you are talking about??? I remember it being scenic and twisty.  I'd go for that too.

Were are you located?

yes the Kancamagus highway is an awsome ride, maybe some riders from NH would be interested too?

This is beginning to sound good, the Kancamagus was going to be my first shakedown run on the new mods! How about the Mt. Washington road? Any advice from the seasoned rally folks on order of operations to get this thing rolling?

you're doing just fine..... this is exactly how the first rally was initiated.... few guys on the internet get together for some riding ......plan the meet up location(s)/ time/date

meet up.

scope out potential routes over a morning cup o'joe

everyone gets their ride on.

find some good places to eat along the way..... BBQ will get Henry there

end each day with a few cold one's around the biggest campfire you can get away with.......

Ta DAAAAAA...  a rally !

go for mid summer (June/July) and i'll ride up for it..... :good2:
