Front end sits too high

86 1200 with 92 front suspension.

Before the swap both of my feet were flat on the ground when straddling the bike. Now after the swap my heels are off the ground but not a lot enough to make things a little uneasy in a rough driveway backing up. Also noticed the headlight is higher at night and the bike leans more on the side stand. All this is understandable because I have no idea what was done to the forks prior to me getting them.

I checked preload and found them already set to the weakest setting. What is the chance I can just slide the forks further up the tree and not cause damage or week points in the forks?

Do you have the forks set at the proper height in the triples?

Sure, go ahead and try it, however....
Be aware of the weak sauce spring rates used in the '92 forks (.475kg/mm)

Under hard braking there is so much fork dive you can/will crash your fender strap into the bottom of your fairing if you go overboard with the lowering.
So.....if you are using the oem '92 fork springs, I suggest you invest in some stronger fork springs, especially if you are using the better R-1 brakes.
A RPM fork valve kit with matching springs would be the best option. OEM Damper rod forks suck.
