........I think the engineers (and most people) agree that having a fuel filter is a good idea, so starting with the '89+ FJ's they added a fuel pump, just so they could run a fuel filter.

Cheers lads

I've converted many gravity fed cars to fuel pumps and the reason is always the same - to run a proper fuel filter (a gauze screen is not a proper fuel filter). A pressurised system will also overcome minor impediments to fuel flow giving a more reliable delivery. The exception being SU fuel pumps. Those that know what they are know what I mean

I can remember removing filters from a few GF bikes over the years, the complaint being they were running out of puff at sustained high speed, and fixed the problem.

RPM should package up a "conversion kit" it would sell well I would think. Randy would have all the stuff sitting on his shelves already, just need to put it together in a box with an instruction sheet.

Does anyone know what this is?

Looks like a vintage dash mount hand fuel primer pump.
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

'86 Ambulance - Bent frame, cracked case, due for an overhaul
'89 Stormy Blue - Suits my Dark Side
