GPS mount

I'm looking for a better way to mount my GPS. I use a 5 year old Tom Tom. My current mount is a water proof bag made for a smartphone. It mounts on top of the triple tree using 2 Velcro straps. I'm not interested in a tank mount as I would have to take my eyes off the road for too long.

RAM make the most extensive range and best quality mounts for just about anything on cars, bikes, planes, quads, boats etc.
Below is RAM U bolt mount around the handle bar riser.



Even though I have a waterproof Zumo, I have found it rarely gets more than a few drops of water on it, even riding in heavy rain. The only time it gets wet is if I am stopped or parked with the bike pointing the wrong way for the weather. You may be able to ditch the w/p cover.

That is of course dependent on the type of screen you have. I have the non US original screen.

Next time I am not even going to buy an expensive w/p motorbike unit, just a standard car one for a fraction of the price.



This is what I use (mounted sideways) and it has the unit positioned near enough to dead centre. The ball joints allow for a considerable range of adjustment.

I have seen lots of other good ideas posted here, just depends what takes your fancy and fits your budget.

Ditto on the RAM mount. It's in my make up to look for alternatives from the status quo, (e.g. I own an action camera but I won't buy a GoPro) but these things actually work and are reasonably priced from the good sources. They not only articulate very well, that rubber coated ball system steadies the display. Mine is clamped pretty much the same as what I can make out from that photo above. I've used it on two bikes over 12 years and with 2 different GPS units. I just had to replace the original RAM back plate and cradle with the ones that came with my second unit. It's was a matter of two screws as everything lined up.

The only thing I did was substitute my own stainless steel Allen head bolts at the clamp.

I am playing with RAM mounts for my GPS. I also used the master cylinder mount like Noel uses with the U-bolt. I had tank bag issues with that mounting.



I then drilled the steering stem nut and put a ball out of the top and I am liking this mounting.

Hey All
My mount is similar to Dads FJ and Randy's.  I took the ball mount that fit my GPS and drilled and tapped the bottom of it for ¼ - 20 x 6"carriage bolt. I used a short piece of rubber heater hose over the bolt with a nut and washer. I removed the steering stem cap nut, inserted the hose/bolt down the hollow stem and tightened up the nut. As you tighten the nut it compresses the rubber hose inside the stem. There is a second nut that tightens up against the bottom of the GPS mount to keep it secure. I don't have a picture, but I drilled the steering stem cap nut to accommodate the carriage bolt. It's been there for a few years, and it doesn't vibrate because of the rubber mounting.
