I decided it as time to get a street bike that I really wanted and for along time .... My new to me 1990 Fj1200, bought it without riding it first as the carbs were gummed up because of sitting in he garage for 6 years therefore it was really a good price. In 1984 I tried to purchase a new Fj1100 from a Yamaha dealer in Seattle. At the time I was 18 and they didn't take me as a serious buyer so I marched right over to the Suzuki dealer and purchased a new 1984 Suzuki GS1150ESF ... loved that GS1150ESF and owned it for many years. I have thought often over the years about owning an FJ1100/1200 and the timing and price was right a couple weeks ago so I took the plunge. Finally was able to get it running and put a quick 40 miles on it and have to say what a machine! This thing is almost 27 years old and is very fast and smoooooth ... the Suzuki was great but not nearly as smooth as this Yamaha FJ1200. My last road bike was a 1990 ZX1000 Kawasaki Concourse that I really enjoyed but it to had buzziness at certain speeds and the FJ1200 is light years ahead of this bike in every respect. Anyway I am really happy with this purchase and am looking forward to the spring riding season. Thanks to all of the people that contribute to this great forum, as this is a great resource for FJ owners and I hope I can contribute going forward.

That's a very nice colour, of which I'm rather fond.

So you bought it, "ride unseen"? Interesting.

Welcome to the forum. Enjoy that bike! Yep. They fast.

I know I've never done that before and I have purchased many motorcycles over the years but took the plunge based on how it looked and a low price ... figured I could part out if it was terminal but it turns out to be solid and 18k miles on it to boot. Feels real tight and really smooth and love the sound of the Yoshimira exhaust. It feels as fast as the Suzuki GS1150ESF that I had years ago without the buzziness I used to feel through the bars and it feels a little more trim ... I bought that Suzuki new back in the day and put well over 50k miles on it. Really looking forward to putting some miles on this old girl in the near future.

Welcome. Very nice looking '90 ya got there. These are great bikes that are very dependable and a blast to ride. I'm running a Yoshimura 4-1 on mine and I love the sound although I think I prefer the look of two mufflers such as yours... bet it sounds bitchin! This is by far the best forum out there for any make bike that I've joined or visited. Great knowledgeable folks willing to help, just ask. Might want to look up and make contact with some of your Washington FJ neighbors.                                                                                                                                                                    Cheers! :drinks:                                                                                                                                                                                               Charley

Thanks for the welcome. I will track down some local riders once the weather gets a little better in my neck of the woods. The dual Yoshi pipes sound awesome ... sounds like a hot rod!!
