Bike wont run 84-1100

Have not driven my bike for for several months now.  That has to end soon.  Just a couple problems, keeping me from the road. But it has taken time and money to sort out. I ended up taking it to my local guy as he is pretty good.  They race those little cars, legends or something like that, and he works on those also.
Can not get bike to start and run now,
after a period of months where the engine slowly ran worse and worse in the idle to 2000-2100 range. Above that range, bike ran perfect as it slowly got worse in the low range.  Popping, sputtering on take off and rough running up to 2000 rpm.

After going thru the entire fuel system and electrical system, local guy came up with the fact that the igniter is bad. Specifically the vacuum advance.  So I purchased one from a running bike, supposedly, online and plugged it in to test.  I cannot get the bike to run or idle with this igniter, until I hit the 2000-2100 range. Then it runs fine. It just sputters and dies if I try to slow it down into the 2000- idle range.

I think this igniter is going bad in the same way as my stock igniter did.  I need a well running bike to test this igniter on.  I would like to talk one of you into helping me out with this by plugging this part into your bike and see how it works. I dont think if an igniter is bad that it can damage anything, but many of you know the answer to that.  I am not that experienced with electrical.

Anyhow, if anyone is feeling extra generous this month, I would like to talk with them.  And I am promising ALL the beer you can drink if I ever see you. Or maybe I can just send you a sample of the local brewpub I like to frequent.   Anyway, do I have any takers?

Sounds like the (idle) jets are clogged up from lack of use. Does it start with the choke, then when warm won't idle well. Then when you get around 1/2 throttle it runs better? Our crappy gas with Ethanol has made this real problem.

Explain "going through the fuel system" ? Took out the carbs, totally disassembled, cleaned replaced pilot jets, pulled the emulsion tubes and cleaned, tuned and adjusted (carbs synced) ?  Yes it could be the ignitor but the most likely area is the carbs. The pilot jets are extremely small in diameter. Think a pin head or two. A little crude can effect them.  As FJmonkey indicated if it runs "better" with the chock on (getting more fuel) then it is about a sure indicator the problem is inside the carbs. Have faith it is fixable.  :good2:

OK.  I got bike running. Going to go to the running problem forum to finish.  I realized I should have gone there first, anyway.

Weren't you politely asked some time back not to offer technical advice on things about which you know next to nothing?    :pardon:
