Just heard it on the radio on the way home from work this morning.  Haven't been this bummed out since Zappa died.  Managed to see him only once in concert "way back" on his Serious Moonlight tour in the early '80's.  I even remember (most of) it....  Los Lobos opened for him, and Mic Ronson was in town the same night and he came out for (I think) Jean Jeanie (or is it Gene Genie?) and thrashed away unrehearsed on the Gibson.  Mic died only a few years later from cancer.  Hard to believe that was less than 1/2 way through his career.

He gulped life with both hands - and whether you liked his music or not - he was certainly a rare bird indeed.

I have a video of him at The Beat Club from '78 which I think I'll watch again today.   That should cheer me up - besides it's a -15 degC windchill outside - a grreeeat day to couch surf. (popcorn)
