Howdy folks
Is there an exhaust paint FOR SINGLE WALL PIPES that will last a fair amount of time?

Sounds like you are looking for ceramic coating. http://www.jet-hot.com/ Google it, you will get plenty of options.

The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

If you don't want, or need, to go the big bux route of specialty vendor applied coating, and want rattle can cheapness and longevity, you can try these out...

PJ1 Fast Black

Or...

Eastwood High-temp Satin Black

I have used the PJ1 product a number of times, and can vouch for its quality. You have to prep properly, clean the surfaces thoroughly, apply the paint as directed, and also important for longevity, cure it to their directions.

Its longevity and appearance quality over time, is what you put it through, and if you bother to wash the road grime off.

If you want the really good, vendor applied coatings, be prepared to pay for shipping (not cheap) your exhaust, unless you're local to them, and pay good money for thr coating service.

I have used the flat-finish VHT (Very High Temperature) paints in rattle-cans, with good results.  You can cure this paint using engine heat, just follow the directions.  You can get surface-prep, colors, and clear-coat in the VHT line.  I have not tried their clear-coat, but I expect that they know what they are doing, there.  Still, if your pipes are stainless steel, you might want to check out the buffing/polishing results, before you try paint.

+1 on the VHT paint, lasts quite well, and then I decided to go the permanent ceramic coating route.

Good to hear that you two have had good luck with the VHT paint. Not so for me.

I bought their Flame Proof product. Primer, base coat, and satin clear to do a 4-to-1 Kerker. After much elbow grease to prep the header, I used all the paints to their directions. It came out looking swell. Then I installed the header, and started VHT's "On the Vehicle" curing process. Within minutes time, not even reaching their first cure idle time, I literally watched the coatings bubble and peel before my eyes. Going from exhaust connections downward. I could not believe what I was witnessing. Especially in light of the tens of hours that I put into prepping the header's surfaces properly.

I was able to get my $50+ dollars back that I spent on materials, but had to go through the same laborious process of prep again, and removal of the VHT residue. Applied the aforementioned PJ1 paint, and have not had one issue with it.

Like I said, it's great that you had good luck with VHT coatings, but after my episode with it, I won't use it again.

Had exactly the same problem with VHT flame proof when I painted my exhaust collector box

Your pipe was likely a single wall pipe like mine, The red I did mine in was almost instantaneous producing this poisonous yellow smoke. VHT as well.
