Ignition Coil Relay

Does the ignition coil relay mod produce positive results in performance?
The previous owner installed Dynas at some point, but it looks like stock coils are back on it now.
The bike has low miles, and runs great, so I'm not trying to fix a problem, just improve performance.
It has a stock black('89) exhaust, 1300 cc, a K&N filter in the air box, and who knows what jetting.
A Dyno run printout shows 94 HP, rumor says it should be higher.

I don't know about HP performance but IMO older (they all are) stock FJ's are a little sluggish to start.  I converted mine with the coil mod, Lithium battery and 4 brush starter. Now it starts like a bike should.  It is an easy mod and if done correctly you can convert it back plug and play. Nice to get almost full battery voltage to the coils. There is a good file on the mod in the files section.

Absolutely. Do you notice the difference in light output with the headlight relay mod?  Same thing with the coils, more energy in, more energy out.

The difference between 10.4 volts and 14.2 volts at the coil (my measurements) results in easier starts (as George points out) and what I found was slightly smoother high rpm running.

Carry a spare coil in your tail cowl. I use the same 30a relay for my headlight relay so I need to carry only one type.
Unlike the headlight relay mod which is easily reversible, if your coil relay loses it's magic smoke, you are going nowhere until you plug in a new relay, and make sure you can plug it in...use a relay plug base, that way you don't have to fuss around with wire connectors. Lastly, put the relay (and plug) in an easily accessible location, away from the engine heat,  using water tight connectors.  .
