Gday trendsetters,
Newbie here from Nth Qld who is in the market maybe for a fj1200.
I've had quite a few bikes throughout my 48yrs,mainly dirt bikes.
Anyway,i need a bike for commuting to work & back & some 2 up touring which won't break the bank.

I'm looking at a 91 fj1200 with 56000kms in good nick,i can get it for $1800,does this sound reasonable?
Also...how often do these bikes need the carbs synced & what do bike shops normaly charge for this?

Anyway...if i do end up getting this bike i;m sure you guys will hear alot more of me,this seemlike a great forum.
    Cheers.

Welcome Dazza. How far up North are ya?
Once cleaned & tuned & no rust in the tank, you may not need a tune for years. (A bike shop could charge you from $200 for that alone)
If the klms are definite, it sounds like a great price.
Will detail in "For Sale" Thread, but on Friday a mate showed me his silver & Blue 93 Fj that I can verify has done only 33000klms. It had been sitting for awhile so he got the local bike shop to go over it & get it registered. (tyres, Carbies, fork seals, fluids). They charged him $2000, so he wants $3000 for it....completely original and pretty. ...I got pics for anyone interested.   :drinks:

General i live at a small town called Collinsville 80kms west of Bowen.
The bike i'm looking at is a direct import, the owner bought it with 1100kms on it & has 4 into 1 exhaust.

Your mates bike sounds great but unfortunately i cant afford it at the moment,i really shouldn't be buying any new bike (i already have 2) but i really could do with a road bike.
You know how it is  :wacko1:

Welcome Dazza, the calipers are one of the many mods you can do to these bikes to make them better than they already are. 17inch rear wheel upgrade will give you access to all the modern radial rubber, while Randy at RPM has all the gear you need to upgrade your suspension, engine, etc..

Any questions just ask, theres a wealth of knowledge on here.

I passed that one up for various reasons.

I saw a XJR1200 which looks interesting,i like the upright riding position.
Do you know anything about these bikes?I believe they use the same engine as the fj.

Yep same engine, just detuned a bit, or rather retuned. I reckon their a great looking bike and if I had the money I'd have one in this colour.

Here's a bit of a write up about them.

I've stretched the budget & now buying the generals mates fj.

I am trying to find a gearsack rack & can't seem to find any, does anyone here have one or any luggage racks they would like to sell?

Also the clutch has started slipping,is it just a matter of fitting heavier clutch springs to fix the problem?

Cheers fella's.

Dazza, There's a gearsack rack for sale on gumtree at the moment for $50.00, seems to be in good condition, situated in Western Australia though.
