FJR master cylinders, some minor stuff

So, I got a pair of FJR masters off of eBay.

Also, I got the new steering bearing cover, the rubber washer that goes between steering stem nuts, and the two little rubber boots that go over the shifter linkage ball joints. All this stuff is still available from Yamaha.

Greased the linkage and put the boots on - shifting is sooo much nicer. Installed the steering stuff and went easy on tightening the nuts - that also worked out.

While I was at it, reset the idle mixture screws to 2 turns. Seems my jerky low RPM problem got better.

The new master cylinders went in easy. Most complicated thing was grinding off the locator tab on the clamp.  Bled some nasty dark fluid out of the clutch.

The brakes now require some care - they grab far faster with less pressure. The clutch got tons lighter and has much shorter travel. The switch on the brake is a direct fit. The clutch has a three wire plug and I had some trouble fitting the wires in. Anyone know where I can get the FJR clutch switch plug?

When you find out let me know. A click lock oem type plug would be nice.

I just used 2 small female spade connectors to slip over the male prongs on the clutch m/c.
Also, I used some heat shrink to hold them from slipping off along with a zip tie securing the wire on the bar.
All's good (so far) with 60k miles since the conversion.

You will like those adjustable levers.

JPaganel,

This is the best list of suppliers for motorcycle-type electrical connectors that I could assemble.
You may need to replace both the male and female connectors with a "different" (non-OEM) pair,
but if you keep notes on the Part Numbers you use there, that won't be a big problem.
See what these guys have for you.

P.S. Life is too short, and health is too valuable, to ride on cheap parade-duty tires.

Red, thanks a lot.

I went through those sites and I think I found the right connector. Kinda looks like one of the connectors coming off the fuel tank (petcock reserve valve?).

I ordered a couple, we'll see if it fits.

Probably more like the Fuel Level Gauge.

I'm glad this is coming together for you.

The plug came in.  It's a perfect fit. I used the two outer terminals, and I now have a correctly operating clutch interlock.

The stock number is M3PLPS on this page: http://www.oregonmotorcycleparts.com/connectors.html

:yahoo:

One thing I'd throw out there - the metal of the terminals seems kinda flimsy, and I couldn't  crimp it well enough to hold, so I wound up soldering them on.
