Most important question......where's the next rally?

Toss up between Bathurst and Mount Tamborine, but subject to change without notice.

Sweeeeeet for me either way.

btw, you were right about the scarf Mark, my gopro did get some awesome shots of it.

Noel, you were also right. No-go for the chest mount gopro on an FJ  :dash1:. I might try the helmet mount when out of NSW.

Johno, you were right about it as well. I thought I was leaning over HEAPS, but the video makes it look like I'm riding a tractor and my dog is missing. Also the balaclava did the same job as the scarf. Ah well, Dr Who is off the bike (sorry Pete, no more fake blondes) :flag_of_truce:.

Mind you, my chicken strip reduction was an all time personal best. Nothing to truly brag about, but quick for me.

Now roll on the weekend, Effie needs to move!

G'day,

just wanted to say I had a great time at the rally, and am very happy I went.  A big thanks to Arnie for the great rides to and from Harrietville, and the tightest curves in Victoria will not easily be forgotten.  A great bunch of people, and I hope to get to the next rally, where ever it might be.

cheers, Gareth

G'day everyone, arrived home yesterday arvo after taking three days to do the six hour return trip from Harrretville. Thanks Len, Jonno and Alf for some fantastic company and great riding. We saw some awesome roads and scenery. Hope everyone had as good a return journey as I did.
What a great weekend. Thanks to all for making it a truly memorable weekend. Great to catch up with those that I had met before and great to meet some new friends. A big thanks to Richard and Darran for hosting the Saturday night presentations. Great job! I wonder if the Queenslanders have thawed out yet, some of them didn't look so comfortable with the 1*C temp at the top of Mt Hotham.
It's going to be a hard act to follow but I'm already looking forward to next years Rally.
  Thanks again, regards, Pete. :good2:

Hello Fellow Riders. Just a little ride report.  :hi:
Over the last week I traveled 3012km to attend The FJ Owners Rally in Harrietville VIC. I left from Grafton on Wednesday morning to meet up with some riders from QLD at Glen Innes. We then traveled to Tamworth and ended up staying at a little place called Currabubula. Top Pub, highly recommend it. From there we headed south through some beautiful country to stay the night at Coolac Bee Hive Hotel. It rained on us from there for the next 350km to Harrietville. We Called in to Holbrook to check out the Submarine in the park (pictured - HMAS OTWAY) for a reprieve from the wind and rain.

Now I must say The Harrietville/ Mount Hotham area has some of the most beautiful scenery and best riding roads I have ever seen. We had 21 bikes in attendance (3 ringins, but we won't mention them) and we did a lap from Harrietville to Mount Hotham (It was 1*C up there) then on to Omeo, on the the Blue Duck Inn for lunch, up to Falls Creek, then lastly to Mount Beauty before heading back to Harrietville.

My Tip home was a little bit faster with the first stop at Blayney (near Bathurst) I had wanted to a Lap of Mount Panarama, but time constraints ruled that out. I made sure I did do the Bylong Valley through to Muswelbrook. More beautiful stuff, before I headed east for the Pacific Snoozway for the straight shot home. The only issue for the Bike was that it developed an oil leak from the Timing cover (seal on the crank shaft gone i would say) and i got an oily left boot. Other than that the 32 year old bike ran like a bought one. One days rest now and back to work tomorrow.

This has been one of the best riding weeks I have ever had. A big thank you to the organisers, and the the FJ riders who make it special

+ me as well Mark.
Great to meet you and the other members.
It has been a veeeeeeeeery long time between long rides for me & frankly I was a little nervous before heading out last week. Nervous because I've not ridden much for a long time, also because I'm not particularly quick, and mainly because I didn't think I'd be able to stay in the saddle for the hours and k's we did each day. Could I pack all the 'essential' gear? Finally would I like the other FJ riders?
WELL, how wrong  :dash1: can I be.
I suppose it's 'just like riding a bike' - you never forget.
Each day I got off my effie I was feeling great, no, euphoric (that was before beer mind you)  :sarcastic:, this was about 5-6hrs saddle time a day. Strewth effies are comfy bikes.
Quick or cruise, just doesn't count with these fellas. After the thousands of corners over the 4 days I achieved a personal best with my chicken strip. I mean personal best, still not quick, but I'm happy with it.
Would I like FJ riders? Well, in the 80's I did some MRA rallies, and various other club rallies. I didn't fit in then, so I stopped going to group stuff, still rode solo though. Still not sure if I fit in  :sarcastic:, but I'm happy to hook-up with FJ riders ANYTIME!!!!

So to you lurkers who've missed this year's rally, here are some of your likely excuses:
I'm too busy at work...
I can't take time off...
I've got family commitments...
My balls are sore...(well done Tony, you axed that excuse!)
I'm worried my bike won't make it...
I won't fit in...
I don't know if I'll like the people there...
I'm not a group person...
I'll be embarrassed about not knowing as much as the others...
My bike looks like shit (but runs)...
My bike uses too much oil...
It's a long way...
My partner doesn't want to go...
I'm too old...
I'm too young...(pillions are welcome!)
I don't ride...(as above)
My cat has sprained its' penis...
What if it rains...
I don't have an FJ anymore...
My FJ isn't ready...
I can't afford it...
I have aspergers (you c*#t!)...
I don't like the heat...
I don't like the cold...
I'm depressed & don't want to be a wet blanket...
I don't like bright light...(better stay in your coffin then)
I have to vote...(you'd seriously support a political c*#t than come to a rally? REALLY???)

If any of the above apply or even sound vaguely familiar, BOLLOCKS!!!!  :ireful: :ireful: :ireful:
Most of those thoughts crossed my mind, some even seriously (kids, wife, work, bike..).
But I took the plunge and went.

Here are some of the answers to those problems:
I can't take time off, BOLLOCKS, you can plan.
My partner can't/won't come, you can plan. (sure some things you can't plan for).
I've got young kids, you can plan.
I don't have an FJ/its not running etc. We don't care (bewdy Stu with Yamutha)
My cat has sprained its' penis. Good!
I have aspergers, good!
Worried my bike won't make it. DON'T, these are FJ's we're talking about, they'll make another few thousand k's, AND, will run better for it, TRUE!!!!!! Yes I did need a couple of litres of oil, BUT I SURVIVED that incredible hardship of topping up my oil. (still buggered if I know were it's going though)
Can't afford it, SAVE, you have plenty of time till next year.

Now, a specific one for those reluctant to leave the nest. Your wife, kids, partner, cat, dog, familiar, employer, etc. will be happy that you've returned. FURTHER, they'll be even happier that you're happy, actually went and did something significant, and ... adventurous...

I didn't plan on writing such a spray, but, to summarise the above. Start saving now. Fix the bike or simply beg, borrow, rent, another bike, and just go to the rally. IT IS WORTH IT!!! We are from all walks of life, so no-one is an 'outsider' that is for other groups..REALLY!

G'day all - the 2016 holder of the "Ashes" reporting in....... Peta and I got back home Yesterday afternoon after an epic rally weekend..
Great to meet friends new and old on our March get-together.

I'm so glad we decided to trailer the bike down this year as it gave Peta a chance to meet all you folks and take part in the ride. I feel sure her knee will be up to a full ride to wherever the 2017 rally is held as it has recovered from Saturdays excursion quite nicely after a couple of days of Panadol and Advil to calm it down.

We left Harrietville Sunday morning and headed up the Keiwa Valley, Across to Corryong, Jindabyne, Dalgety, Bega and into Tathra for the night.
From there we headed up the coast, calling into as many side road excursions as time allowed until we reached Port Stephens Monday night. Another meander up the coast via the Myall Lakes (Seal Rocks, Forster-Tuncurry) and on up to Wooli for the Tuesday night stop. Late start Wednesday morning to get home Wednesday afternoon.

Rover, Darran - great job Saturday evening guys - I can't remember who took out all the raffle prizes but the comms unit will sure come in handy for me and Peta.

Pete - exceptional Saturday ride - you and the NSW south coast crew take a bow.

Roll on March 2017.

FJZ1 1200 - It'll do me just fine.

Just arrived home after my extended return through Victoria and NSW. Travelling without a map or GPS makes life interesting and I covered some roads that I never knew existed. Camped in some awesome spots and did the old Glen Innes to Grafton Rd over 100 km of dirt and beautiful scenery. The Yamutha performed well apart from one puncture . Thanks to the organisers and thanks to everyone that contributed to the Cervical Cancer raffle. Over $80 was raised in about 20 minutes. Great weekend, great roads and great company
