Yesterday, we piled in the Jeep, and drove over by Leadville/Buena Vista area for some "Outdoor Time".

The purpose of the trip was to do some "Recon" for a possible camping destination for Labor-Day weekend, but mainly we wanted to get the kids off the couch (and away from electronics) and get some fresh air!  :good:

We ended up on Chaffee County rd #390, which is in the middle of the "Sawatch Range", in the San Isabel National Forest.

Saw this Beaver Pond, with Hut, on the way in.

There were plenty of good camping spots along the road (which follows Clear Creek through the valley), but most of them were taken.

We did manage to locate a pretty decent site next to the creek.

Drove down off the main road to find it.

Plenty of room to pitch 2 or 3 tents, and a couple fire rings.

I marked it's Geo-location.

The Boys couldn't seem to get enough playing at the creek (throwing rocks and sticks in it, was the activity of choice)  :good:

Logan exercising his Pitching Arm.

After we ate our picnic lunch, and the kids had their fill of playing at the creek, we hopped back in the Jeep and explored the road to the end.
It turns into a rougher 4WD trail further in after the Ghost-Town of Winfield. Further still, it turns into a hiking trail where we could drive no more.

The views were spectacular!

"Granite Mountain"

"Virginia Peak", and "Winfield Peak"

"La Plata Peak" 14,361 ft

Anyway, just some Colorado back-country scenery.  :drinks:

Soulsational stuff! .....We get advertising (for jeep) down here that`s similarly spectacular. (Apparently it`s mandatory to yell down a canyon "I bought a jeep")

You can watch all the documentaries of the world but nuthin comes near a mate`s pics posted about his family weekend.
More so, if he`s from a different location to our own.

Looks like you and your family had a great time. That's some really nice scenery.

Personally, I love mountains, but anything called a "mountain" in my neck of the woods, is a mole hill compared to what you have in your area!

Great pics Alan. I've been as far as Fairplay with my Jeep. Haven't made it to BV yet but plan on getting there someday!

What kind of Jeep do you have?
I'm planning a trail-run with a couple buddies in a couple weeks.
Over by Westcreek/Gulches area if you're interested?

We'll probably bring a little camp-grill and have lunch down at the river.  :drinks:
