Who lives in Western Washington?

I am sold on buying an FJ. I have sat on them in the past and always thought, "Some day". There are several in my area for sale that l will be looking at in the near future. I am planning to take my bike to get new tires and put it up for sale this weekend.

I am wondering how many guys here live in the Seattle area, or Western Washington in general. I was hoping that l might be able to meet up with someone when l do get my new bike, to help me go through it, point out some things to look out for, keep an eye out for, etc. Also, if anyone knows of any shops that work on them that would be much appreciated. While l would like to do my own maintenance, l am not too proud to admit that there will likely be some things that are above my head. Thanks in advance :)

Hello!

I'm down in Portland.  A bit of a drive but not too bad.  I make somewhat regular trips to Lakebay since my folks retired there.

If you're able to do your own maintenance on your current bike and have some mechanical ability, there really is not anything you can't handle on the FJ.  They are easier to work on than more modern bikes.  Randy @ RPM has just about everything you'd need parts wise along with the experience and knowledge to back everything up.  Plus you have everyone here to help get you through rough spots.

I took a look at CL and saw a couple that look to be good candidates.  The '92 in Fall City and the '90 in Wenatchee would be my first choice.

Yes, l am really hoping to move my bike this weekend and get a look at the one in Fall City.

Also, are there many tutorial videos out there for repairs on these bikes? I tend to learn well visually, as many people do.

Not sure of any videos, but the files section has a ton of information in it.

Fully understand the visual learning.  As as an example, the idea of four carbs scares most folks at first, but once you dig into them they are not that difficult (like most things on the FJ).

l hear ya. l spent several hours last night reading through the repair section while my girlfriend was having trouble with her Pneumonia in the hospital (she is doing much better now). I found that little by little l was starting to grasp different parts of the bike. There are a lot of threads about carbs and a lot about suspension. This suggests to me that these two areas are areas where a lot of guys find room for imrovement or, in the case of restorations, it is always a matter of bringing carbs back from the dead.
