Gday,

I purchased an 1988 FJ1200 6 months ago. She worked, but had been in a minor accident. All the fairings on the right had some sort of minor damage, and at least half of the screws were missing. After I finished the plastic repairs and gave it a slightly "camp" paint job (at least that is what my wife tells me), I stupidly routed the cable incorrectly down the frame past the head.I put in a screw a bit too long in the back of the air vent, piercing and shorting the main 12v wire, and a wire between the ignitor and pickup coil. Now she will not start, showing the fuel and oil light simultaneously.  Disconnecting the ignitor shows the same error lights. Being an Australian model, she has no stand switch.

I found an ignitor on ebay that looks the same, and has all the same digits except for the serial number, but is from a bike with ABS.(Hitachi TID14-67A 3CW-01)

Cheers in advance

Kaine
Do the ABS models have any additional fail-safe that will affect  me putting this ignitor in my bike? How compatable are the different ignitors, ie a 3CV01?

Upon further investigation,  I took apart the ignitor, and found that probably wasn't the problem.  Reading through some old posts and downloading the manual from this site, I traced the problem to the start fail-safe relay.  All the inputs appear correct, (neutral, power, clutch, oil, fuel and start switch. I shorted the output to ground, and she rumbled to life.

I am pulling the relay apart tonight to try to see the problem.

Add: inside the relay module was a $5 omron relay with a corroded common leg. Should have her back together and on the road in a few days.

Thanks for the great info on the forum :good2:

Kaine,
Good job! Nothing like hearing that engine after a period of down-time.

I don't see anything wrong with your paint job. Looks nice.

Glad you got it running.  Often it is just the simple things that mess with you. Your paint scheme looks good to me :).  Kind of reminds me of a WWII ship camouflage paint scheme. :).  I see by looking at your rear wheel you must have some "enterprising" neighbors.

The exhaust  is an Aussie brand. It was on when I got her. They are a bit dented and have a stress fold in one spot.

I'm not sure if the neighbours are that bad, or if I am just paranoid.
