I'm close to a violation and will cross through 2 weeks to WCR shortly...  about a month ago Randy and I did some electrical work on Wiz (relays on horn, coils, and headlight), then a "what the heck" compression test revealed #2 was way low.  Off came the head and we found some serious carbon buildup from leaking valve seals.  One thing lead to the next and now we're doing pretty much a full rebuild with new cylinders (couldn't get new sleeves in time)...  gonna be pretty again with new paint job on engine, but any little hiccup will DQ the Wiz this year.  Pics...

Frank , I saw your engine while I was at Randy's the other day and thought you are in for some last minute wrenching .  :empathy2:

If you don't finish it , just put a fork brace on the 1100 and bring it as planned. Nice to have a spare FJ. :good2:

Planning to ditch the Metzler Marbletecs and put Avons on just in case...  I'll go sans brace and just ride slow(er).  Might bring the Duc up for a faster day if Wiz isn't ready.

I got a little more Rally prep done over the weekend as well.

Balanced the carbs with an old school mercury manometer. Works better than the current Morgan device.



It nice to flip the tank around and not need an aux fuel supply.




I finally got the heated grips connected, and found a good place for the switch. I added a simple aluminum bracket to my GPS mount and the switch is tucked away nicely.



Then a temporary volt meter to see the power output of this new to me FJ. A bit bulky, but I already have it, and it will be removed before the rally.



Then a test ride of course on the Crest, being Mother's day the road was all to me mostly. 

Next week I will remount the top box, the PO of the rack (not the bike) used a flimsy piece of aluminum as an adapter.  :bad: I replaced the seal in both side bags and swapped out the lock cylinders so all three locks use one key.

Is it rally time yet?

Looks good Mark.  I have a similar set up for carb balancing and find the longer tubes are more accurate.  In rough numbers a 1/8'" movement in a small scale balancer is about 1" of column movement in the longer tube.  Makes it nice to really zero it in and that last bit of adjustment and for me it makes a difference. The smaller units are nicer for portable use or for tool box storage.  Those get you close but once you use the longer tubes you notice that last little nudge of the adjustment screws makes a difference.  They just don't store or transport well :).

Here is what I have been using for fuel instead of using the FJ tank. It is a 1 gal. container from WalMart I think.  Run a fuel line in it. The filter is a lawn mower filter.  Applies to fuel pump models.  Under the towel I have a small piece of plywood it rests on.



I haven't had time to do it but I have though about trying to attach an inexpensive low PSI pump with an adjustable regulator 1/2 PSI to 6 or 7 PSI with a 1 gal fuel container all in one box.  So it could be used with gravity or pump FJ's for balancing carbs.   Might be handy for rally's or shed days :).

Yep...  hoping for new tires soon (Avons on order).  It was stock except for the stainless lines going in.  Other observations?
