G'day,

A work mate is keen to re-enter riding after a few years off and he is looking very interested in the below advert:
http://www.bikesales.com.au/private/SSE-AD-3269624/1985-Yamaha-FJ1100?cr=0&psq=(((Make%3D%5BYamaha%5D)%26(Model%3D%5BFJ1100%5D))%26(((((SiloType%3D%5BBrand%20new%20bikes%20available%5D)%7C(SiloType%3D%5BBrand%20new%20bikes%20in%20stock%5D))%7C(SiloType%3D%5BDealer%20used%20bikes%5D))%7C(SiloType%3D%5BDemo%20%26%20near%20new%20bikes%5D))%7C(SiloType%3D%5BPrivate%20used%20bikes%5D)))%26(Service%3D%5BBikesales%5D)&pso=0&pss=Premium

I told him to check for the 2nd gear issue, and ask lots of questions about the second bike, what was needed of it, what needs replacing etc.  Although if I had the option I would snap up a spare bike too.

I was wondering if the seller is a member here or another local may know him and be able to offer some history on the bike.

Some times people buy bikes for a resto, discover the true damage and off load as soon as possible.
It looks like a moderately decent deal...

Hey Gareth

The front fairing has had a respray as the decals are not right and it is missing the rubber slide protectors off the bottom corners of the fairing, so it may have been put down at some time. other than that it looks in good nick. the spare bike would be gold as a lot of the bits it still has are getting hard to get. I would go for it.

Gareth, it's only a suburb away but its not me - looks reasonable though (with all the spares).

I told the potential buyer to ask about the 2nd gear issue, to enquire if the bike is running or not.  I told him that if the owner states the bike has not run for ages, and if the seller does not get it running, to avoid the bike.  For $3500 it is too steep.

He phoned the buyer and did not get much info at all.  So he is looking at one on ebay instead...
