Half-Fast Fred

« on: October 01, 2019, 07:11:20 PM »

I really wasn't looking for any luggage racks for my project FJ. I came across this mount kit and knowing they are rare and hard to come by, I had to grab them. The only thing missing are all the black plugs and caps.

Hey Fred! Just checking, are these for sale then (or are you just bragging and making me jealous, haha). If so, how much are you looking to get for them? And, if you don't mind sharing- how'd you find them, anyway?

At the moment the mount kit is not for sale. The kit will be installed on my 1990 FJ1200.

The posting was more about keeping your eye out for known rare parts and picking them up when you can. Murphy's Law FJ style...... You see rare parts for sale over the years and then yours breaks and those same rare parts are nowhere to be found.

Thanks Fred! That’s what I figured, but better to double check instead of miss out! And yes, I’m certainly realizing that it’s better to have a spare on the shelf for some things!

Fred

I have a full givi setup on my Honda Blackbird and I want to convert it over to my ITX. This Y204 kit, will it work on the ITX, and do you know what I should be searching for for a proper Givi Mount for top case. I assumed RPM had all these brackets for Givi and the FJ.

Sorry for the delay in replying. Yes, the Y204 kiy is designed for all model years.

I am not sure if RPM has a Reproduction version of the Y204 kit.

There is a Reproduction kit available in the UK, BUT..... I have it from a very reliable source that they leave something to be desired in quality.

No, we tried to get Gigi to repop them for us, even offered to buy 100 sets but it was a no go from them.

Robert (or anyone), do you know what Givi used to sell them for? Fab shop might be able to knock these out fairly easily, especially at that quantity. Maybe the bends won't be exactly the same, but as long as all the mounting points end up in the same position it should be a-ok. I think Givi sells the parts that the bags actually mount on to (the two pins and the triangle piece), so the "new" wingrack would just need appropriate holes to throw those parts onto.

This was something I planned on looking at myself just for fun, but seeing as I haven't even found time to put the purchased kit on my bike..

Not too sure. The Hepco and Becker kits are around $400-$450 plus shipping, I believe, but I don't know.

The side plates and top piece wingrack are around $200, per Givi current pricing. So then it would be down to the tubes and mounting hardware.

Too answer your question on a suitable price to sell a reproduction kit. As I mentioned earlier, the FJownersclub.UK sells a kit for £99.00, $138.00USD, $172.00CD or $186.90AUD

Doesn't seem too terrible of a price to match, I'll definitely be looking into it when I've got a minute to properly measure up my spare set (I took a page out of fred's book and picked up a spare one when I saw it go up for sale.. and then bought another FJ because it seemed a shame to have parts on the shelf)
