Was wondering if anyone could tell me how to turn off the ABS, or should I just pull the bulb, installing the new/used fzr rear rim so won't have ABS any longer....thanks

FJmonkey

Not sure how deep you want to in disabling/removing the ABS. Withe the pump(s) and extra hoses you could save some weight by removing it. I do not know how involved it is perhaps another can comment on removal. But the lest expensive way is remove the bulb so the warning light does not bother you.

I was thinking about removing the pump.

ABS pump removal: There is also the ecu in your tail cowl you can remove.
You will need to convert your front brakes to the traditional set up. (the abs pump has 2 lines going to your front brakes)
While you are doing the front end conversion I suggest some R-1 blue spots, 14mm m/c, new ss brake lines and a wider '87/88 FZR1000/750 front rim.

In for a penny, in for a pound.

I have my blue dots and braided brake lines only from my blue dots to that junction splitter.
So I just remove that whole computer piece under my tail section and pull the bulb along with the sensors and pump, I will also get a fzr front rim, that should be a bolt on using the fj axle right?

Pat Conlon

yep, the '87/88 FZR rims use the 15mm axle same as the FJ oem rims.. The '89+ FZR rims use a larger 17mm axle
Don't forget rotors. Your abs rotors wont bolt on to the FZR rim. Different pattern.
The oem '89-93 FJ rotors work on the FZR rim or you could get the Chinese wave rotors on eBay. Look for FJ1200 '89-93 non abs rotors.

Full removal isn't difficult. Remove the fuel tank for access to the front hard lines.

I was thinking about removing the pump.

To get the pump out, you must remove the rear shock.

In the tail section, there's the ABS black box and what appears to be a large relay.  The connectors for these boxes are part of the same harness.  Once you unplug the boxes, follow the harness to the pump connector (which is already disconnected since you removed the pump) then find the wheel sensor connectors.  After unplugging everything, the whole ABS subharness can be removed.

Thanks everyone, you've been much help.

I was able to re-route my rear brake line to reach the outlet port on the master cylinder.  I had an aftermarket line, the stock line may not reach.

For the front, I added a new line from the master to the splitter.

You don't need to pull the bulb.  It will not light up with everything removed.

On most cars simply disconnecting wheel speed sensors will disable abs basically causing a code and rendering it inactive and should perform like regular brakes. Or check for abs fuse and pull it. If u decide to sell bike just reconnect it. Since this is a bike consult with a tech first but pretty sure this will work and way less invasive.

The ABS pump isn't light and worth the effort to remove in my opinion. The control box under the tail, easy to remove, also a fuse or two and a relay, by the battery. If remember correctly. Hope this helps.
