Replaced the contacts on my fuel pump

Upon leaving work last week, I got two blocks down the road and the bike shut down. Waited a couple of minutes and it started back up, wouldn't stay running, so I pushed it back to my office. Pulled the plugs and noted that they were dry, so: fuel problem. Since it was getting dark, I pushed the FJ into our frame shop and decided to spend the night at the office. Walked a mile down to the convenience store for some potato chips and drinks. Half way there I realized that I hadn't heard the fuel pump come on for a week or two, so next morning I browsed on line, and saw a repair kit for it. Before I ordered the point set, I took the old one apart. Yup, the contacts were thin and well cooked. I ran a folded over piece of fine grit sandpaper through them a few times, put the pump unit back together, and turned the key on. Very little noise, but I could feel the vibration of it running up when I touched the unit itself. So, up and running again.
I ordered the contact set that day, got it in and installed yesterday. Only thing to know is that it takes a soldering iron for one connector. While waiting last week, I also picked up some fuel line and barbed connector and two hose clamps as mentioned in the forum by movenon, as a just in case.
So, easy fix, less than 10 minutes, but that's because I had a soldering gun in my saddlebags. One thing though: Is the OEM pump for the 1990 FJ a Mitsubishi pump? Mine has the 3 diamond logo on the cap.

Yes the stock FJ fuel pump is a Mitsubishi pump.  There is 3 parts that I want to carry on a longer trip. I say "want" because I don't have an extra digital ignitor box yet.. Seems like one can get overwhelmed with stuff to carry but as the FJ has limited space..

Emergency fuel pump bypass hose
Small set of jumper cables (made my own with 10 gauge wire because commercial ones are to bulky for me)
Ignition box

Thanks George, hard to know what is oem and what is aftermarket after 20+ years. I always have a tire plug kit and compressor in my bags when on a long ride, and now the hose kit. Usually also a battery pack/ jumper. But no matter how big the bags, always something to fill them. Shiny side up...

...and 1 pair of coils, everthing else can be jury rigged on the side of the road.

I prefer to carry a pump rather than bypass hose because they are cheap ($26) and I want to continue the trip, not just limp home.

I don't worry about jumper cables but I do carry a spare ignition box (and coils and fuel pump)

I figure there is nothing else to fail that can't be fixed en route that will call a premature end to my trip.

I generally carry a spare fuel pump on longer rides. I now have a spare ignition box to carry along and I will be adding this little compressor.

I think it is small enough and should get the job done. If you already have a Battery Tender quick connect on your battery. The compressor has the same type connector.
