I have come across a 81 Yamaha Seca 750 in  good condition at a fair price. I remember seeing these bikes as a kid but have no experience with them.

Does anyone have first hand knowledge of them good or bad?. Any known problems and so on?.

My first bike was a Seca 400, same year, different bike so I cannot offer any helpful info. The 400 ran great till a pickup truck cut me off and I plowed into it. My brother bought it and got running and sold it. Seem to be sturdy bikes, old steel like our FJs I guess...

My first bike was an '82 Seca 550:

The same design Yamaha YICS engine...Outstanding bike and hooked me on Yamaha for sure!  I put 64,000 miles on it with little to no maintenance other than tires, chains, sprockets, oil and filter changes.  Dead-simple and reliable.

Just what I wanted to hear. Thanks fellas.

I remember the sound of them reminded me of a jet. Back then to me a 750 was a huge motorcyle.

Probably solid enough, but don't you think it might a bit breathless next to the Fj?

Breathless = Lacking Kookaloo, lacking classic good looks, lacking the urge to take long and twisty rides, lacking attraction of the good looking ladies...

Ah I get it. Nope, it does have classic looks and it is not meant to ride like a sports bike.  Any lady that would look at an FJ these days would probably have false teeth and be drawing her pension.

The Seca looks to be in great shape, I remember that the Seca models sold extremely well and have never heard anything bad about them.

Check the XJ Maxim/Seca forum for more knowledge. http://www.xjbikes.com/forums/index.php
