Sorry to hear about the departure of your FJ.

I too am a fan of the Vmax. In fact I have recently looked at a 85' Vmax project bike, the owner backed out after I looked at it.

If any who lust for the Vmax, actually pull the trigger on one, then find that you cannot handle its awesomeness, then perhaps you should re-evaluate your manliness and go with the new Yamaha Smax...

I remember a kid in a motorcycle safety course riding one, and made us all look like idiots. He was so smooth and balanced. Always wanted to ride one as well.

...so my next question is..., are you going to run the V-Max down the 1/4 mile? :good2:

Just looking now. It may take a while. The drag race event here is May 1, 2015. So that's on my radar.

Here's the "other woman" I have eyes for. A current Hungarian-registered 1998 V-Max.

Too young to be old but old enough to know better.

WOW, that would be awesome!!!

Just delivered the bike today, but rain forecasted all weekend. He was so happy to get it... like a kid at Christmas. He said there was no rush to deliver it, but I told him I know exactly how it feels. The sooner the better.

You got to love the lines of the VMAX. I almost bought one but went with the FJ instead.

I read a report on the new model that said in the first 3 gears, regardless of the RPM, when you crack the throttle wide open it will break the rear tire loose. Gotta respect 200 HP!

Hey Lotso , get ready to spend some money on mods. check out the v-max forum and mods site.

Here come the flames=== I have owned 2 v-max's an 85 and 2001 . Although they look sexy and rumble and go straight , they don't turn or corner like an fj.

:diablo: So you are gonna want a chain drive conversion.
:diablo:next will be the boost kit to bring on all 6 carbs at once.
:diablo:then you will need a bigger rear wheel and a front end conversion .
:diablo:then the scoop conversion so they actually draw air instead of just looking cool.

I think you will miss the fj sooner than you think.

Have fun with the chain conversion , that gets rid of the shaft shuffle so do it first . with the right gears and the carb kit you can click off some 9 sec 1/4 ers.

it is ok to want a v-max , they are fun . get some leather chaps for your legs , the heat from the rad fan is gonna fry you.

When I sold the K13S I was looking for something different.  I went the v-max direction and rode one...  They are fast, but +10 on your statement above.  One turn and I was back to my previous conclusion on cruisers circa 1988 (when I rode a lot)...  it just doesn't work for me.

Lots of people like them and they beat the crap out of any HD for turning, but the most modded v-max won't stack up well against FJ's or any sport touring bike for getting out of trouble quickly.

Frank

BTW - end of story was the RD.  Stable full for me with 3.

...Obviously I will not abandon this forum. I have the Hungarian orphan Christmas project going on, so I'll keep updating about that.

This has been the best forum I've been a member of. Received a LOT of technical help here. I can't thank you enough!...

I felt the same way when I sold my FJ... TEN YEARS AGO.  that's right, I've been a hanger-on to the FJ forum(s) for 10 years.  Definitely stick around.  There's a couple around here who never had an FJ, so we're still one up on them.

Damn, Danny, got me thinking. Sure enough, it's been about that same 10 years and two bikes ago for me too. Way to make me feel old!

To the point then, stick around, Mark.
