Hey guys, I've been checking this forum for a while before my purchase of my first big bike. A 84 fj1100 I got today for $750. She's not much to look at but runs like a dream. Looking at converting her to a street fighter or naked bike. She's already had carbies Chem cleaned and rebuilt b4 I bought it, as well as top end rebuild.

Really want to get her on 17s with preferably a 180 rear if anyone can point me to some posts I'd be grateful. Thanks.

Welcome. Lots threads on wheel conversions here.  This is just one link. http://www.fjowners.com/index.php?topic=3380.0.  My advice is do a lot of reading before you start buying parts.  It is real easy to buy the wrong stuff.  Review the files section and use the search function. The Gallery is also helpful at times for pictures.
There are a lot of members in OZ, where are you located?  Sometimes help is close by.
Cheers George

Welcome to the Psyche clinic Psycho, 17" inch wheels makes shopping soo much harder. The choices are plentiful and prices all over the place. But being stuck with the few options of 16" really suck.... I am happy to have made the jump to 17". I had easy access to a 92' GSXR rear wheel and all the bits from the rear axial. And a 88/89 FZR1000 front wheel and blue dot calipers. Easy bolt on upgrades. Use the search function and you will find many others that have bolted on and or (machined to fit) the 17" upgrade...
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

Thanks guys. I'm in the riverland south Australia. Only parts I'm buying at the moment are some pods for carbs as they are naked ATM. Going to take me weeks of cleaning before I'm ready to mod so I'll definitely do my homework.

Hi Psycho

welcome from another Aussie, Sydney based.

Look forward to reading about your build. I wasn't going to go to mad too early with mine but then a complete
Thunderace rear end came up for a good price and I couldn't help myself as they say............
Still thinking of something..................

Having a sound engine/carbs/tranny is a good starting point. Cosmetics can be worked on at your leisure, especially if you have plans in mind. I've got a little pictorial of my rear wheel conversion down below in my signature,  :good2:
