I will need a new rear tire very soon. Has anyone got any experience and opinions with Continental ContiMotion tires. Good bad or indifferent?

i can get a 180/55 - 17 for $87 delivered and I am chomping at the bit but dont want to throw my money away.

Also what would you consider a fair price to have the new tire put on at a bike shop assuming I bring the wheel and new tire in.

I have a pair of ContiMotions on the FJ. I don't have more than about 500 miles on them, I can't claim to have pushed them real hard in the twisties, I'm still getting back my confidence in my skills (such as they are) after my lowside in July. I do know a pretty good rider on a FZ1 that has run track days on ContiMotions, he said they were more than capable on the track for an intermediate to advanced pace.

Thanks Country Joe

I appreciate the response.

If you search the posts for Conti Motions you will find some positive posts.... I thought I could ride the tires to the edge till I rode with Craig in San Diego. He rides off the edge of the Conti Motions before getting a new set. For the price of one set and performance... it is the shizall... Till I find a better set for the price, I am on the Motions....

Tire life is largely dependent on riding style and throttle usage. Mark FJ Monkey loves his motions. I think they are one of the best bangs for your buck. That being said,  they will go quick if you rode as hard as you can on them all the time. This is my rear after 4000 miles of riding to my full ability level. (Raging through the angelest crest and rock store every weekend for a couple months over the summer)

Mark usually gets 6k+ out of them with his smooth is fast riding style. (something I'm working on emulating)

I Like my Conti motions on my FJ :good2: they are a good value. My ZX1000 came with bridgestone battleaxe tires and they are not wearing as well as the contis and not as sticky either. Ive lost traction a couple times lately and they only have 3000miles on them...they are greasy IMHO. Ill be putting Contis on my ZX as well.

On my XR650 I picked up some Warp9 17" Supermoto wheels with 310mm rotors, came with Michelins....that thing is fun.

I am on my second set of Conti-Motions. I have not been able to find any fault with them. I totally agree with the previous posters..... They are the best bang for your buck.

The 2nd part of your question. Labor rates vary across the country. Where I am, with the wheel taken in, mount and balance will run $40.00-$50.00

I'm not the fastest FJ rider, I am 'half-fast', the fastest slow guy....

Do you have a bike shop in your area? You should try to order the tires through them to get the best deal on mount & balance. I've heard of some shops refusing to mount any take in tires. I've heard several positive reports on the Continentals. The only negative that I've heard, is that they are very heavy for their size. Maybe not such a big deal on an FJ, but a deal breaker on smaller bikes.

I am still a firm believer in the Avon Roadrider tires. That is what I have been putting on my bikes & plan to install a pair on my FJ this summer.

If you do mail order your tires. Check the pricing on Amazon.com. I bought 2 Avon Roadriders for a bit less than $200 with free delivery.

Easier to reply if we knew where you were located :scratch_one-s_head:

John.
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely, in an attractive & well preserved body...but rather to slide in sideways, body completely worn out and and with your last dying breath screaming, "HOOOYA LIFE, lets try that again"!!!

if so please do share it so noone will ever ask the same question

If you are near SoCal then you can ship the tires to my house, show up, and get them mounted and balanced for the cost of a few beers and good conversation. That is how I roll, DIY kind of guy...

Yeah, what the Monkey said...I have a tire changer and balancer at the house, but I get paid in wine.

Your in Illinois right Wildfire? Did u get the tyres...theres an excellent shop called "Morries Place"in Ringwood Ill.The owners name is Ed Zender  awesome guy and ace mechanic...the shop is mostly British bikes but he caters to all makes and its just a neat shop to visit especially if you like old Brits. Peter Egan from Cycle World is a frequent customer, so you know its cool! Tell Ed Charley (from The T.S. Webb Group) says Hi if you go there. B.T.W, how'd your deer hunt go?    Cheers!                                                                                                                                                                                                                Charley.
