want to mod, want to keep stock

well thanks for all the replies
great points on either side of doing the upgrade
...I suppose i can just save all the stock stuff
i dont need the performance but, i want it available
what i really want is the brakes
i always seem to get started in the wrong direction, bought a really nice '92 front off a member here, now learning more, i might end up like him and go the whole route with a 3.5 front and a matching rear
maybe i can powder-coat these new wheels a similar color as the stock wheels
i have a set of wheels off a ('92???) fzr600 in the crawler that i need to look at and see if they would be any help
any one have a link to a thread that seems to be the swap that requires the least amount of machine work?
looks like i have at least made a decision, not sure about the wheel route yet

The above photo is a 1987 FZR750R front wheel after I had it powder coated close to the OEM silver. The photo below is what the wheel looked like when it was delivered to me.

The powder coating has worn well. After 2 years of use it is still shiny and brake dust wipes off with a dry rag.

I went through the same thing with the front wheel .  You may like the 92 fj wheel . quicker turn response but twitchy in the twisties. The 3.5 wheel is a heavier turn but very stable and planted and stays neutral laid over in deep turns.

The YZF600 rim is only 5" wide.....so the recommended size is a 170/60-17

can i run a 180 tire with this setup?


I have an FZR600R wheel which is 5" wide and have only ever run 180's on it.  I have had a dozen plus tyres of all the major brands on it without issue.
